Hey,

I usually play CS:GO, Arma 3 and soon GTA 5.

My current specs: i7 4790k & r9 270x

CS:GO is lagfree as it's not a graphic intensive game.

Arma 3 is more of a CPU-based game, so I always have ~50fps, which is fine.

Soon GTA 5 is coming out, and singleplayer games in general require a good GPU. Will my r9 270x be fine for playing gta 5 smooth or is it necessary to upgrade it to an GTX 970?

IF you recommend upgrading to a 970, what brand do you recommend and is it possible to get it below 300 euro in The Netherlands?

A 270x most likely will be fine for GTA V no one can really say that yet.

But a 970 as a upgrade is always nice. I haven't found a new 970 for 300 in NL not even secondhand on Tweakers.net

can we wait until the game is released before we make more threads?

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

oh, you mean 3.5GB to a 4GB version of the 270x? Joke has got to stop lel =D

Anyways, 270x should be fine, looking at the recommended(not minimum) specifications. 660 is recommended, 970 should be overkill(according to the recommended) and 270x should probably be fine too, if you don't mind running with less AA.

The only real results will show up when the game is released

CPU: I7 4790K(4.6@1.252v)                               Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed(Black)           Cooler: CM 212 EVO + NF F12 iPPC

RAM: HyperX Fury 1600MHZ CL10 2x4GB      Storage: Samsung 850 EVO(250GB) + WD Red(2TB)      PSU: Corsair RM750 (and no, it hasn't blown up!)

MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger                      Graphics: MSI GTX 970 TwinFrozr (1494MHZ Core)       OS: Windows 10 Enterprise

With both cards it is Hit or miss with coilwhine?

Yeap there is a chance that there will be coil whine in any card.

Even the HOF Gtx 980 which jayztwocents recently reviewed has coil whine.

GTX 970 MSI or G1 Gigabyte?

Does the MSI have any coilwhine issues? if not, I think i'm going by MSI.

Brace YOURSELVES! I am going to answer the OP's question and not go into left field or start a fanboy war about AMD vs NVIDIA! I won't tell him to buy something he isn't asking about or downgrade his opinion!

I have the MSI GTX 970. Zero coil whine. Its the 100ME edition with the sexy backplate.

That was hard. But I survived. I wish the rest of this forum was made out of more courageous persons like myself. Then I might check in more often.

I guess it's not a reason to bring back the card if it has coilwhine.. as coilwhine isn't seen as a "defect" ?

Some retailers or companies might allow you to exchange the card if you find that the coil whine is a nuisance.

That said, cards with coil whine may go away after some time.
