It is not ld, but I would recomend buing something newer if you are getting a new card. If you have a 780ti, don't get rid of it. It is still a VERY capable card

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Gtx 970 is similar in performance, has more vram, uses less power and overclocks better. Costs 320$ and you get a free game with it too.

How do you get a free game with it? I bought one last week and I'd love a free game :D

970 is a little slower than a 780.

Are you considering an upgrade from a 780 Ti or are you trying to decide to get a 780 Ti or another card?

If the former, keep the Ti.

If the latter, try to find a 980 on eBay or Craigslist for that $450 price point. Be a smart buyer when buying used. Always test equipment from Craigslist before purchasing.

I agree it has more vram, uses less power and overclocks better but it isn't similar in performance.

This is some of the results from when I tested the windforce 780ti vs the g1 gaming 970 and REFERENCE 980:

Tomb Raider:

780ti: 99.2 avg fps

970: 83.8 avg fps

980: 90.3 avg fps

Bioshock Infinite:

780ti: 132 avg fps

970: 119 avg fps

980: 128.8 avg fps

Thats all at 1080p and maxed out, and to be fair the 980 is a reference model so keep that in mind, but the 780ti was about 16 fps faster in tomb raider and 13 fps faster in bioshock.

It is still super fast, but it uses lots of power, doesnt overclock really well unless you are super lucky and the 3gb of vram could be an issue moving forward, especially if you game at higher resolutions.

What do you recommend instead of 780ti up to 450$

If you have the 780ti then keep it and OC it. It is not really an old card. If you don't have one then go with a r9 290x or 970. 780ti used should go for about $300 US on eBay. Maybe even cheaper.

780ti's still is the better performer. It gas a half gig less vram but better memory bandwidth. If I was given a choice between the two I'd choose 780ti.

I'm keeping my 780 ti till Pascal is released. Although chances are I'll upgrade when the card's warranty expires.

This is the perfect choice honestly. And even if you don't want to buy AMD, wait to see the 390x and see what Nvidia does...lowers prices and such.

Well I recommended the 970 becuase it is the only card which is similar to a 780 ti in terms of performance and costs less than 400$. Under 400$ you can't get a better card in terms of performance over the 780 ti, as the 980 costs more than 500$.

At higher resolutions the r9 290x performs better in many games than the 970, and typically costs less, although in recent weeks the price of the 290x has crept up. In a few games it outperforms the 780ti as well, and this will become more prominent in upcoming games where the vram limit of the 780ti(and the 970) is reached and performance drops.
