Hi All

I just wanted to see the opinion of the community on the following PC.

Money is no object so please don't say it's a waste but I am going to be running 2 Reference GTX 980's ( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-204-OK

And also a Reference GTX 970 ( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-205-OK) as a dedicated Physx.

Realistically, as they're both similar speed Maxwell chips in there, will the performance be large and future proof? (BTW yes I am gaming across 2 4K monitors so the power really is needed)

Thanks

I know you said to not say "Waste of money" but...

Dedicated PhysX cards are not a good idea right now, at all. If you REALLY want one get a GTX 750 Ti for it.

Why not 2 Titan Xs if money is not a problem?

And scrap that 970 for physX. It will be a total waste for a 970 to be used as a PhysX card

I keep forgetting that's an option, despite actually owning a Titan X myself.

Aye, just get a Titan or two, if you really still need a PhsyX card for whatever reason, 750 Ti.

980 sli is the better option for you. They might struggle on 2 4K monitors. (I don't know I might be wrong)

So, dual 4k displays will need more than 2 980's. If you dont have a budget, a Titan x or two will be great, if you insist on the PhysX card, a GTX 750 will do,

1. A 970 as a PhysX card is the stupidest thing in the world to ever do. It's not like the 980 can't handle PhysX

2. They are the same maxwell chip, the 970 is cut down a bit though which makes it different to the 980.

3. There is no such thing as future proof.

4. You can't game on 2 4k monitors and get acceptable frame rates at high settings.

I hate the idea of Titan's. They're not really "Gaming GPU's" so I always prefer 2 of the Highest Single Flagship GPU's.

This is my 1st time looking at Physx cards and really am a Perfectionist and want the best I can get that looks amazing !

PhysX cards are pointless, they became useless a while back because every card out there is overkill and can handle PhysX on it's own without even doing anything.

if you're going to get the 970 as a phyx GPU you ight as well just go tri-SLI with the 980s. more performance and physX help.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

They're the highest single flagship card for gaming from Nvidia. The 980 was until the Titan X was released.

Why would they call it the "Titan" if it wasn't for gaming?

because it's for rendering simulations...

The Titan X is very much so a gaming GPU, hope people would realize that by now. The original Titan was a bit of a Hybrid and the Titan Z was an amazing FP64 card, the Titan X is a gaming card, has crap FP64, GK110 is still a better option, especially now that people are selling Titan blacks on CL for $600 to buy Titan X, really funny.

It's not a rendering card, that ability was for the original GK110 Titans, not the GM200 Titan, if you need proof look no further than any rendering performance chart released with the Titan X on it.

Again, reasons for sticking to 2 way SLI is rendering. I understand games just don't really support 3 way SLI so althought I could, I won't for that reason.

I'm definitely steering away from the Titans. I love them and one day would love to own one but I don't have a use for the full features they have so want to stick to High End Gaming Dedicated GPU's.

Hmm i'm undecided now.
