So, my froend has an old macbook wich aparently his mobo is fried (ofc.. I ill test that and see if its fixable...)

But first i want to make sure i salvage the hdd. So he can get his data back.

Its a sata hdd. So i plan to plug it into my pc, and transfer the files onto his usb hdd... Do i just plug it in the mobo and transfer the files ? Or there is a specific way of doing things ? (Plug n play or have to setup the laptop hdd ?)

Thanks !

You may be able t plug it in, but it might not show up in explorer due to different formating. Re-formating the drive will cause him to lose all data. If you can, get a SATA to usb, plug it into a mac, and plug you flash drive in

You wont be able to just plug it into a PC. As the file systems are different. Windows wont be able to recognize the file system. You'll have to plug it into another Mac.

Wrong, you can do it on a PC, but you'll need to use Linux

Do you have Linux? Does your PC have any extra drive bays and do you have a spare SATA cable?

unless you  got a mac..you won't be able to read the hdd

you will need a program for windows to read a mac formated hdd

All i want is to transfer the files. He has a mac. But i just want to transfer files like documents n stuff

You can make a duplicate of the drive through a program that is not in windows if the drive is not mounted. Clonezilla is one example. That is if you can't connect the hard drive to a mac through sata. Then go to a mac, transfer files to it, and if he needs it to be in windows form, reformat the drive to FAT and then put the files back on it. When formated as FAT, it will work on both Mac's and PC's

Wu... Why would you spend $1000 when you can do the same thing for free?

cause the MacBook is dead and I would assume they would be getting a new MacBook. That's what I did. Though I'm still working on data recovery and it's been 5 weeks. Just not time at the moment.

That sentence makes no sense. A PC means the computer runs Microsoft Windows. Not Linux.

So what do you call a machine that runs Linux?

Pc = Personal Computer. A phone is a personal computer.
