Thermal paste question

Go to solution Solved by ANewFace,

It's a fine thermal paste, and good brands are Arctic silver, and IC Diamond, but stock is fine.

If you are using the stock cooler I'm guessing you aren't OC'ing and so that would mean yes the stock cooler's thermal compound is fine. You can see up to 7 degrees different if you change it to a different thermal compound but it isn't necessary.

Well I have two.

I have a 4790k. Is the thermal paste on the stock cooler good enough or should I remove it and use something different?

Also what are some of the better brands to use?

Intels stock coolers are not really good. It's okay for not too heavy stuff and no OC.

For thermal paste: getting Noctua, Arctic Silver, IC Diamond... will work well.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If you are using a stock cooler, than you must be using the CPU at stock frequencies, intel has validated this cooler with this CPU to work, they wouldn't include if it didn't meet certain requirements.

Now obviously a after market cooler like a 212 evo would give better temps, you shouldn't be worrying about the thermal paste, as much as the cooler it's self.

Ok thanks all.

Not Going to OC just yet. When I feel brave enough I will buy aftermarket cooler.

For now just a lot of gaming andsomr browsing/youtube.

I'll stick with stock paste for now and reapply with better paste and better cooler when ready to OC.
