Cities: Skylines or SimCIty?

APrettyCoolWalrus

Should I buy SimCity or Cities: Skyline? Skyline looks like more fun but I was wondering if it is worth the extra price or whether I should even get it at all.

Cities: Skyline!

SimCity is one of the worst games ever made. The last good one was SimCity 4.

Skylines is better than the new Simcity, but old school Simcities master race (Simcity 2000 and 3000)

Cities: Skyline is what simcity could, and probably should, have been.

City skylines without a question, 聽

he really shows it off well

I was just about to post this as well, Nerdcubed gives a great review of it and really shows why it's so much better than simcity.

I think the UI is easier to use in SimCity.

Just dropped in to say SimCity is pretty good for a casual player. The only limitations (in my experience) is the small maps which doesnt bother me since i only make small cities. If you can get it cheap its a good game imo.

No it is not. There's several things you can do to break traffic on Simcity even after all the patches. Not only that but you can't really compare it's tiny ass cities compared to Skylines and the amount of freedom you get.聽

Not only that but Simcity has some pretty stupid design decisions that can affect this like for example is not really simulating anything: People don't "work" or "live" anywhere the simulation just makes em take the first available job based on proximity and the first available home when coming back based on proximity: A "citizen" basically lives and works on the first place he finds available. This means that in order for the really heavy density housing and works to work (i.e. the megatowers from the expansion) you have to work around this stupidity otherwise your cities, buildings and towers will inexplicably fail due to unforseeable consequences of the game not properly working.

In fact I could write an entire essay of everything that is fundamentally broken on Simcity but the bottom line is that Skylines has 1000x the scope and has proper mod support聽which in case you're wondering, makes or breaks a city builder. The best city builder of all time imho, Simcity 4, is that great because of the massive and tremendous mod support and Skylines already has聽tons聽of mods including many that actually fix some of the clunky traffic issues like op in traffic lights (which is imho more realistic: most cities don't give you a left turn when a tiny street meets a 12 lane avenue)聽
