my 9590 doesn't bottle neck my 780ti in black flag. If anything, I have to turn some settings down cuz the card can't do everything to the max. Now, in sli I can run everything maxed now in black flag @ 5760x1080, no bottleneck, but the cards can still struggle at times.

So in my response, a 8350 OC and a 290, no problems at all. Just turn AA down a lil

*sigh* Why do I even bother trying to reason with people like you who utterly ignore reason and insist on sticking with 1 brand no matter what. You do not buy AMD any more if your gaming, considering an i3, which is a hyperthreaded dual core is as good in games while only requiring the cheapest motherboard and no after market cooling. An i5 costs about the same as an FX 9590, uses less power and only requires the cheapest motherboard and its stock cooler. An FX 8***/9*** can't be justified outside a budget rendering/video editing rig, as games that make use of more than 4 cores are few and fare between. The last AMD CPU's that should be bought for now until AMD get's of their asses and does something right, are Phenom II x4/x6 and Athlons as they have stronger single threaded performance and multitask better than their FX equivalent with the same number of threads.

dammit all i want to do is play games such as ac unity at nice settings settings at a playable frame rate. i know everyone hates it but im an ac fanboy. if i go intel im gonna have to pretty much build a new pc which i dont have the money for. im guessing an r9 290 will still bottleneck with an 8350? anyway thanks for al the replies it really helps :)

AC Unity is sadly really CPU bound

Not that I would ever base a system on AC Unity performance

Honestly, FX-8350 + HD 7950 is a pretty balanced build. Is it just Unity that sucks for you? Because to play that smoothly at high settings is going to cost a lot of money. I'd just hold out until next year or later and do a full rebuild then. Right now the 7950 is still a powerful GPU to play most games on high.

Oh man, if I lived in Christchurch I would never even play games lol. When you have Arthur's Pass and all that great hiking nearby!

Getting a I5 and keeping the AMD video card . You will be a lot happier with the build. Then if you still want a Nvidia card buy it  then.

Gonna cuffem and stuffem. QUE QUE QUE. I love it I love it. :P

GTX970 Sli will also get bottlenecked like shit by a 4690k at 1080p for that matter.

THere will allways be a bottleneck at a certain point no matter which cpu.

who buy GTX 970 SLI for 1080p gaming anyways?

you can stop with this...talking balanced build, 100$ FX crap and GTX 970 is not...that's all that matters.

Still worth getting the GPU though...crank up the visuals and enjoy...you still get only 35-40FPS in many games but at least it looks pretty...choppy...but pretty :)

well...you're willing to buy a new cpu cooler and a new motherboard for your FX chip...and buy TWO GTX 970's to run SLI...

This will give better performance across the board and will allow you to sell your FX kit online to the most offering making this a cheap upgrade...that kit won't limit your GTX 970:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($178.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($100.98 @ Newegg)

Total: $279.97

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-03-26 22:52 EDT-0400

No need for an aftermarket cooling solution with that CPU, it's very energy efficient and the boxed cooler is perfectly adequate for that chip...and this board support SLI if you want to go with dual GTX 970 down the road.

GTX 970 SLI is complete overkill for 1080p and that chip will be the limiting factor at such resolution...of course...ANY CPU WOULD...i assume you would go to 1440p or 4K if you go SLI on this.

What's the point of Z board if it's not OCable?

Right. I forgot Nvidia was such a hoe about SLI.

AMD is not any better...

See, you can't run dual high-end GPU's in X4 slots anyways...well technically you can but the bandwidth will be way too limiting for such GPU's...in the ''H'' series board or any board that has a second slot operating at only x4 speed you want to go R9 270 or lower for crossfire..anything more than that will be bottlenecked...AMD is in fact the hoe for allowing users to figure this out by themselves so that they can sell GPU's...

Ultra no AA is still doubtful, indoor maps yes, outdoor maps,.. hardly.

/I have a 270x @ 1175Mhz and I call BS.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Well i have a 7870Ghz my self, which is a 270X.

And i can tell you that 45fps is arround the right number, he should see in fps.

60fps in outdoor maps, indeed no way.

Yep.

But a mix of Ultra Textures/Mesh,.. and medium-high everything else, no AA and postAA on low,.. should be pretty comfy, and pretty ideal for the card.

that's seem very very good for a 270.... maybe too good lol

don't underestimate a 290. It should play unity no problem, just not ultra'd out, high settings with ease I would think.

It does Ultra with FXAA @ 55-65fps. Using Omega Drivers (Which boosted me 10+ FPS average)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
