Ok i dont know if this belongs in offtopic but its a story to tell so here we go.

So. for those who dont know im Demisexual., and i work on computers. for a very low and cheap price.

So fast forward to 9 PM today. Im working on someones computer and i update them to let them know i started it.

an hour and a half goes by and the windows 7 has just finished installing. So i tell them its pretty much done and they're total is 15$. and then the shit hits the fan. all the words associated to homosexuality comes out like a rednecks bible. Then they tell me they arent paying some faggot for working on their computer and demand their laptop back.

so after that yeah. I didn't get paid. Which i figured.

So if you wasnt very good with computers and all that. would you let someone like me work on your computer? just because of my sexuality.

On a side note i dont take lightly to someone calling me homosexual expletives. SOOO what i did was put a password on it that only i know that wouldnt be easy to crack...went into system 32 and made it so and CMD function requires the same password to do any commands.

We don't really know anything about this situation. The only information we have is the information that Ryouichi Kiriyami is providing us. For all we know the laptop could be full of gay pornography, the guy could have the password already and could be fishing with Ryouichi Kiriyami on Brokeback Mountain every other Saturday.

 

Ryouichi Kiriyami has lumped together a bunch of issues only tangentially related into a confused mass in order to use this thread to get confirmation of what it is he wants to believe and is feeding the thread with only the information necessary for getting people to help him to do just that. Or he he could be linking people in his community to this thread and using it to disseminate false information, or both, and maybe even more.

Should a person disclose their sexuality as a part of their business practices:

 

That's their decision but if it's not relevant to the situation I personally feel that it's a bad business practice.

 

 

If they're going to disclose their sexuality as a part of their business practices should they do so upfront:

 

If they insist on doing so I would say yes.

 

 

If you know you're dealing with someone who Ryouichi Kiriyami suggests is an acutely homophobic, back-country, fundamentalist christian and who's liable to threaten you with a shotgun, ought you not take care to avoid disclosing your sexuality to that person, and if your reaction to that suggestion is something along the lines of 'I'm not afraid of him in the least I'm more concerned about not being able to find my socks', 'Well you didn't think I went into this whole thing without a little insurance did you' and 'if you knew what I had up my sleeve then you wouldn't worry as well', can you really assume that that person is a completely innocent party in all of this (just because he was called a sexist term), and do you really want to help him justify all of this to himself, especially if it might lead to violent conflict?

I know how difficult it can be to get past a personal bias, I have trouble doing so at work (retail in technology), I always recommend products I prefer, and try to stay away from products I dislike. But this is a simple situation. Are you qualified? Yes. Are you capable? Yes. Are you prepared? Yes. The solution to this question is simple. You are more than capable, prepared, and qualified. And, your rates are generous. At my store, we'll install an OS for $99.99. We're even cheaper than people working out of their houses in our area. And we're a big name retail store. You charged $15. I totally understand. I also partially agree with what you did, locking them out (iirc), but I would have personally loaded Zorin or something on it, and said it was a skin over Windows 7, and watched them struggle as plenty of their applications didn't work. That, or reinstall the old OS, but that's so boring

Also, you can't force people to see reason, it just triggers rationalisation as a defense (that's part of how people are pushed into radical beliefs; it's an instinctual defense that interferes with higher cognitive function). It's best just to stay out of it. :0/
