How noisy are PSUs?

IMPERIUS

Just a quick question

Is it worth to invest on a "silent" psu? I have the evga 500b 500w psu and I don't hear it (probably because my other fans are loud)

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

I don't hear mine, even with only my CPU fans (+ PSU)

If u mean silent psu - it's fanless psu.

All modern psu's are quiet enough at low load, but when it goes higher - well, it depends.

Note, that the higher efficiency psu has, the quieter it will be at any load (because it doesn't heat so much).

Hi,

I personally use a RM850 watt, which is overkill for my system, however it does mean that even when i game with my machine, the fan never turns on, i love it as it means i can basically turn all my fans off in AI suite and then have no noise from my machine. However that it how I Like it, If the noise doesn't bother you, why waste your money? besides if your other fans are already loud you wont hear the benefit till you replace them, so i would say you are better off doing that and see how load it is after.

Thats just my thoughts on the matter,

Most PSU's are less noisy than other PC parts anyways

(like your GPU, HDD and your case fans)

It might be worth it a bit

I personally can't hear my Corsair CX 600M. (probably because my case fans are deafeningly loud)

PSU sound volumes often depend on how loud the other components are, but there are PSU's not titled silent, but just as silent as an expensive ones.

I have the FSP 550, its not titled silent but i havent heard it once, even though i have a silent optimized build ^^
