Optical or laser?

Would you prefer a laser or optical gaming mice for gaming?

I have looked into these mice and I don't know which one to get...

which one should I get and please name if each mouse is optical or laser and why which one is better(optical or laser) thanks !

Optical has less issues... but generally laser is faster... for instance with all the pixels on my screens, a high DPI is better (laser).

optical and the deathadder is what i recommend. or naos 7000 for ergonomics(8200 one is laser)

Optical, Deathadder Chroma/2013. You wont regret it if you use a claw/ fingertip hybrid grip.

I am using a deathadder right now and the right grip already came off. Feels cheap. so thats why im not looking forward to buy the same mouse again

What grip do you use?

How big are your hands? (Check the link in my sig to see how I measure that).

The only laser sensored mouse I would buy from that list is the M65. Great mouse. I like certain laser sensors. Mostly optical is preferred by many.

there isn't anything optical mice or laser mice are able to do that the other isn't able to. However the best modern implementations of the laser sensor, the 9500 and 9800 are inferior to the best modern implementations of LED aka optical sensors, the 3310 and 3366. It isn't which technology is better, its well, pixart which has a monopoly on sensors decided to make the best enthusiast grade sensors at the moment LED based and just rely on the futuristic image lasers has with the general population to push those units.

optical mouse have superior tracking, most dont have any accel or it's very little and consistence while your common laser sensors 9500/9800 suffer from smoothing, inconsistent accel and poor tracking

I personally have the proteus core, and the sensei. I prefer the Sensei, because it feels like there is actually no acceleration. The proteus core feels like it has moments where it jumps across the screen, and the sensei doesn't seem to do that. I also feel like the software for the sensei is more comprehensive, since it will let you add acceleration or deceleration if you really want to, and makes it easy to change any settings you want. To my knowledge, the logitech won't let you change acceleration rates. The proteus core has a greater ability to adjust DPI on the fly, but I find that I accidentally press it while gaming, on occasion, and it's a bit of a pain when that happens. I also never use the Sniper button, so it doesn't help me at all. The proteus core has more of a tactile feel in the left and right click, which can be bothersome when you are wearing headphones, because you don't always know if you have clicked the buttons on the sensei. I accidentally press the right side buttons on the sensei, and unless I turn on the steelseries engine before I use the mouse, it causes the cursor to jump down the screen, which is a pain, but opening steelseries engine fixes that. (I have to rebind it every time for some reason) Plus the sensei is RGB, so there's that, if that's something you care about. 

 

Both mice are optical, to my knowledge, and I like them both a fair bit (I use the Sensei for travel, and the proteus core for home use, at the moment, but I'm getting a trackball in the mail tomorrow, so that will replace the proteus for home use.)

Ergonomics is more important than sensor IMO. You've listed some mice with very different shapes and sizes. So you could already start narrowing it down.

 

If you have small hands the FK1 and Rival aren't for you, if you have big hands the M45 and M65 aren't for you.

 

I prefer optical sensors, laser sensors always have some form of positive acceleration although it isn't always very noticeable. This is why people say optical sensors are better.

 

So for big hands I'd say get the SS Rival, smaller hands? Get the M45. Leave the lasers.

Usually a optical sensor has less issues with prediction and such which a laser can have. But fair to say most lasers are pretty good recently as well. What DPI do you use and for what games? Then can better make a suggestion perhaps

depends at what level you're gaming. casual you won't notice the difference between the 2. competitively you'd want optical as they tend to cater for faster movements (around 6-8m/s) however I doubt I could move my arm consistently more than 4m/s.

my mouse is a rat 9 it's laser and more than enough for me with its 4m/s.

unless you're a highly ranked top 500 cs:go player in the world either or will do you perfectly

You could get a mouse with both optical and laser sensors, but razer is the only company I know of that does this.

I used laser and optical and switched back and forth many times with premium products, almost all the laser sensors I've used had some acceleration and minor tracking and stuttering issues. The optical mice are much more reliable sensors. This is from my experiences.

You could get a mouse with both optical and laser sensors, but razer is the only company I know of that does this.

The optical sensor was there for calibration, it wasnt part of the actual "navigation unit".

I personally like laser, but I use a higher dpi.  You should go with whatever is optimized for the dpi you use.
