What Muffler?

Guest Philosophy

I have a 3.4L V6 with a turbo kit from a Buick or Pontiac (Forget which), I was wondering what the best Muffler would be for it so it was subtle but mean sounding? I was thinking Flowmaster 50 Series, any better options? Its a dual exhaust split into quad at the end.

I can't do that here because cars have to be inspected and that would fail it... @thekeemo

Ok, get muffler that'll pass. Then just gut the insides of it. Slam it back together

Get a actuated valve and weld in a Y split right after headers. Can keep stock exhaust and flip a switch and have straight pipe.

The exhaust turbine of the turbo itself will quiet and smooth out the exhaust note quite a bit compared to running the engine naturally aspirated.

As stated above, if straight pipe is not an option gutting a muffler with the right sized inlet is a good way to go. Also, resonators kind of look like cylindrical mufflers, maybe you can get away with a straight through resonator with a decent tip welded on?

Turbo or not, you get the fastest flowing muffler/exhaust you can afford.

For turbo engines, absolutely. Not always the case with N/A motors, however. Depending on the cylinder head design, exhaust systems are developed that take advantage of "scavenging". Here is the (not so great) wiki for what I am referring to if you are interested in a quick read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scavenging_%28automotive%29

In this particular situation though, you are 100% correct that the "ideal" system is as open as possible.

I really like the Varex that TheKeemo mention... If that is too expensive, I'll go for this.

The Glasspack and Cherry bomb are the cheapest out there, and basically the closest you can legally get to a straight pipe.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Not looking for cheap... maybe inexpensive, I want quality. The reason for the Varex, is because I can "turn" it down when needed so I don't look like an idiot at either of my places of work.

not a huge fan of flowmasters, they always seem to drone allot on every car i have seen them on. I have a magnaflow 14815 on my car and it sounds pretty nice and doesn't drone, not sure how it would sound on a v6 though.

Oh, well a glasspack is really freaking loud. Almost like straight pipes but a bit more throaty.

Another good example, although I hate to use a mustang as an example for anything
