Prom night

Hey, tonight is my school's prom night, and I'm just sit here, reading the forum and do some other crap. I don't consider myself to be an anti social guy, but it is because they're taking place in a luxury hotel and we have to pay $50 to be there. I could have save a little more and buy some cool stuff other than standing in a ball room for 4 hours just to socialize with the same other person. Plus I'm not looks so good in a suit, and I don't have a girl to ask for, and I don't have many friend

 

Just want to ask something;

-Do you ever been in a prom night before?

-What do you think about paying $50 just to go to prom night? I mean, they could to that in a cheaper place ($50 are a lot in this country)

So here's my take on the whole "prom" thing. It's about the experience, yeah you'll be spending $50 on a single trip but you can so spend time with people who you might not see in the future. Some of these people may have been going to school with you since you were in elementary school so it's like a last hurrah before the start of a new journey.

My school had it's prom night a few weeks ago, I went to it and it was fun. I did if for the experience and had never been in a suit before.

$50 is quite a lot. My school asked around $30 for it but I convinced my parents to pay it.

I pretty much hated everyone I went to school with, so anything would have been to much to pay.

 

From an objective stand point paying 50$ for a prom.isn't all that much. But since you say 50$ is a lot in Indonesia the school should probaly have chosen a cheaper place

In Australia we had formals, in Year 10 and 12 (final year). Year 10 was awful for me mainly thanks to my girlfriend at the time. However, the last one, before we all shipped off to uni/full time work was fun. Dress up, got a limo and everything. All up I'd say most people in my year spent well over $50 but it was worth it. Good food, good company. Weirdly enough, even the people I hated turned out to be alright for just that one day.

I went the first two years of high school before switching schools. To tell you the truth the actual prom was pretty boring. The parties after prom is when it gets fun.

The last two years I didn't bother going, my 2nd high school was charging $150 per ticket for our senior prom. I and a group of our friends put together our money and went paint-balling instead.

Holy shit!! 150? My prom ticket in 2004 was $40. Tux rental was like $120 if I remember. I took someone I didn't know, who was ungodly hot (out of my league hot), only because my best friend's date was my date's best friend, and wouldn't go unless my date went. So needless to say, slow dancing was awkward, dancing in general was awkward, and I spent 90% of the night socializing with my friends. Afterwards sucked, and my friend and I ended up going back to his house to play games :P

 

I agree, it's all about the experience, and the socializing.

Yup, everyone was pretty pissed because lots of people couldn't afford to go.

While I'm not much of a school dance kind of person, I'd go just to have the memories. It's a once in a life-time experience. :P

They charge upwards of $80 to go though. A friend payed $150 for his, but his was on a boat.

I just had my prom night last month, and I paid around 150 in US dollars (note that my country is using rupiah not dollar so I just convert the amount) to have the event in one of the most luxurious hotel in my city.

 

I do think it is worthed though, especially because you get to share that experience with your friends, especially at the after party, if you know what I mean. ;) lol

prom is an American thing and doesn't happen in Australia, I wouldn't pay to go to it either

I never went to prom. I went to the 10 years reunion and I couldn't care less about the people but 1 odd old friend I talked to while I was there. Realy though the people I realy care about, I am still in contact with.

I had a prom when on my last day of school, me and my two mates wore Guy Fawkes masks and rolled in like some pimps and the location was actually very nice for £20
