So i've been testing vessel for a few weeks now, (since Linus announced the 72hour signup) and so far i am disappointed. I live in Australia, which means that my internet is by no means the best around, but it is good enough to play high definition videos on youtube. My main problem with vessel is that the video format is not efficient enough to be played at the highest quality on my connection, which frustrates me greatly. I do hope it will improve, but i dont hold much hope.

tl;dr Vessel isn't high enough quality, and the top quality is not possible to run smoothly on my connection.

Cheers,

Peregrin.

I know they say the video can be posted to sites like youtube when it has been on Vessel for 72 hours, but I am calling complete horseshit. I there are videos just coming out on youtube today that were posted on Vessel MORE THAN 2 WEEKS AGO! I can deal with the horrible lagging of videos, horrible colors, and all around poorly optimized navigation of the site, but when new interesting content is more than two fucking weeks old before it gets posted to youtube for the masses, THAT is unacceptable!

I'll happily read/watch the reviews of other, arguably more established, professional, and profitable, tech news sources in the meantime.

I've not used it? I'm kind of only aware of it because people keep posting about it here.

They show an estimate of about $50 per thousand views. Youtube pays about $2.00 - $5.00)

That seems very profitable!

Is this true for the "1 Year Free Launch Gift" -subscribers too? And how the views are counted? Like in youtube if i repeat video for 5 times it shows as 5 views. Is vessel the same, or is there some kind of limit like 1 subscriber = 1 view?  And is there some kind of auto play feature or a site that would constantly play the video or videos in a loop or a playlist? This would be sneaky way to support LMG, just put the videos on background while not on computer, just like folding  :)

I believe they count views the same way as youtube. They need to put out more apps for the other mobile platforms they have iOS right now.  Their website works just fine.  They probably have more apps in the works, It would be somewhat silly not to and all they really have to do is make an interface to act as an overlay.  HTML5 go!

After using for a while vessel is definitely niche.  The people who subscribe will love what they're getting and the people who don't will be confused that people pay for it. It doesn't have as much as youtube does but it still has enough to fill your days with mindless video watching. And there are plenty of different channels on there aside from LTT along with some that aren't worth watching (like most video game news shows run by well known media networks.

One big plus for vessel for me is that if I look for a certain video or topic. I don't fund unrelated nonsense due to some jerk exploiting SEO to get his crap in the way.

TL:DR;  I like vessel, I will likely pay for it when my trial ends.

So, I have no issue paying money to watch LTT videos. My issue with Vessel is that I still seem to be getting ads even though I have signed up for a paid subscription and that freaking blows. I have no problem with ads on free YouTube channels but on a paid subscription? Yeah. No.

Free year or not, many won't even consider moving platforms to follow one publisher. Sure it sounds like Vessel have more interesting publishers onboard. Though on Youtube you can just jump in and find whatever you need, without even thinking about subscription or membership.

There is no hiding it, there are financial reasons for LTT doing this, and Vessel probably offered them a deal worth more than what they make from Youtube.

For me I will just wait for the vids to be released on Youtube or not bother at all, and I believe that will be true for many other users as well..

Could this be the grave for LTT? Though lets stay positive and see where this leads :) As long as I see the vids on Youtube, I will continue watching.
