how do i do this forge thingy? (minecraft)

Go to solution Solved by elpiop,

Just tried myself and I got forge/optifine working.Make a new profile with minecraft vanilla release 1.8 as the jar, and then click play and wait for it to download. Download the latest version of Forge installer (forge-1.8-11.14.1.1333-installer), run the jar, and install the client. Run the forge version once, and then close the game. For optifine, I downloaded the latest 1.8 release which was OptiFine_1.8.0_HD_U_D1. Put the jar in the mods folder that forge creates and you should be good. It worked for me, at least.DkT5KGC.png

so i already have forge installed. played mc and everything. now i want to use optifine to use anti aliasing.

whenever i put the optifine jar file into the mods folder, close it, open mc, click play, the launcher says its launching but mc never loads up..

i remove it and mc loads again.

really want to use forge so I can use optifine and shaders

@Enderman  ??

Is the mod using the right version of forge? Have you selected the version in the settings of the launcher?

put optifine in the forge jar file in the versions/forge(version)/ folder

You're gonna have to open the optifine.jar file with something like winrar, and same for the forge jar file, then move all the optifine files over to the forge jar file.

(This may fix it, or it may not, if it doesn't then just re-install forge)

What version of optifine? Because the newer versions do not require this. It's simply an install.

tried it it says "version 1.8.1 not found"

probably because on my profile, i put the version to forge.

then in the versions just select 1.8.1 then click okay, and then play to generate the files for that version. Then go back and click on the mod.

Ehhh... I use MC 1.7.10 with MultiMC to run an instance, such as the Feed-The-Beast Resurrection modpack, and simply drop the Optifine .jar (OptiFine_1.7.10_HD_U_B4 in my case) in <Instance name>/minecraft/mods as you haven't had to hard-load Optifine (or Forge) into the minecraft.jar that runs the game since like Beta 1.8, particularly with MultiMC & MagicLauncher doing the job for you at-run.

Forge version 10.13.2.1291 is the latest for Minecraft Release 1.7.10, 11.14.1.1333 is the latest Forge for Release 1.8.1, if you're trying to run 1.7.10 (which most mods are still for) then the 10.13 branch is what you want anyway.
