So I boot up my PC and in about an hour I have temps that seem way too high for current tasks. I have only got Chrome (~12 tabs) and Open Hardware Monitor running. Possible cause(s) and fix(es)?

What type of cooler are you running? Plus, you have it almost a 1Ghz over stock, so that may have something to do with it.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

How old is your PC?
Is your PC a Laptop/Small formfactor etcetc?

What is your cooler?
Have you cleaned out your PC recently? If so how recent?
Any overclocks If so Settings esp Vcore Voltage?
Check task manager to see whqat app(s is using your CPU.

Re apply Thermal paste and see if it helps.

Remove CPU cooler, make sure you removed the plastic from the bottom of it if there was any, clean off thermal paste, apply new thermal paste, put cooler back on.

Make sure the fans on the cooler are plugged in too.
