ZdMods - Project 180

Meelobee

Thanks guys, I really hope the sidepanels come out just as nice as the smaller parts I've done so far. The panels will be harder because they're bigger and going to be painted white, which is a bitchy colour to get a nice finish with. (Experienced that with my inverted build..)

Thanks guys :)  More pics ahead!

So 'I'll post more tonight' became 'I'll post a few days later'..

After loads of sanding and painting most parts are done. The paintwork is not perfect and unfortunately there already are a few scratches, (Don't ask, lets just say I didn't really like the cat at the time I noticed.)

The sidepanel is in primer only, that's why there still are dark spots on it. Final paint will be done this weekend.

On the 3 pics above the sidepanel thumbscrews aren't installed, when they are the gap between the panel and front isn't there. Same for the pic below, once the screws are all tightened the gap between the front and top will be gone.

Thanks Plextor, and especially Tiffany! :)

Using spraycans to paint heatsinks doesn't really work well. The fins on the heatsink are too high/deep and paint hardly gets in between them, the pressure on the spraycan doens't really help. From up close it's noticable, from 'normal distance' the heatsinks look ok. (Wonder if this would happen with an airbrush too?)

Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I don't really need it myself as I've already have a nice main pc (my previous Inverted build)

Imight sell this one once it's done so I can get funds for the next build which I already have planned :)

Hello again! Last update was a while ago, busy with too much stuff besides modding and been on holiday too, but I did manage to get some stuff on the case done too..

In this build I want to use solid copper wiring again on the EPS connector and the GPU's. I've started with the EPS connector

gallery_31046_257_52813.jpg

I used metal putty to make a 'connector' around the pins and copper

gallery_31046_257_22760.jpg

After some filing it starts to look like a connector

gallery_31046_257_64438.jpg

The connectors are isolated with plastidip, the copper rods will be isolated with either heatshrink or paracord

gallery_31046_257_6488.jpg

Drilled 2 holes in the midplate and added 2 small rubber washers (?) to allow the copper rods to goto the psu below the midplate

gallery_31046_257_38487.jpg

gallery_31046_257_56021.jpg

To hide the ugly I/O ports I've cut a piece of angled aluminum to size, painted it white and added a small piece of red painted hex mesh on the left side. (the right side isn't visible, so there is no mesh there)

gallery_31046_257_5740.jpg

The Plextor SSD also got a red coat, and I've added the brand letters. The letters came from an external hd housing. (Thanks to Plextor for providing the hd housing!)gallery_31046_257_82117.jpg

gallery_31046_257_33825.jpg

From a friend I got a 2nd Sapphire Radeon 6870 so now I can make it a crossfire build. The gpu's aren't the fastest anymore, but for a build without a real purpose it's more than enough :)

gallery_31046_257_53577.jpg

Both gpu's will get a backplate and the edges of the pcb's will be painted (with markerpen) black

gallery_31046_257_123554.jpg

gallery_31046_257_46146.jpg

On the backside of the mobotray the cover for the 24-pin connector is installed with the 24-pin wire inside. From the connector to the mobo will be a short extension cable. The 2 remaining holes are for a small logo which I still have to make.

gallery_31046_257_16402.jpg

The 24-pin connector fits like a glove

gallery_31046_257_5064.jpg

Wiring for the gpu's will go straight up from the midplate, and will be hidden in a cover, like the 24-pin wire. The wire from the connectors on the gpu's to the cover will be made from solid copper

gallery_31046_257_56782.jpg

And lastly a small mousemod to make the mouse fit with the case colors

gallery_31046_257_15009.jpg

Thanks for watching and till next time!

This is really epic, everything fits the colour scheme perfectly and those copper connectors are amazing.

Yeah... I kinda forgot this log, again... But the good news is, I've been working on the case to get if finished.

Stuff I did since last update:

- Made backplates for both of the videocards
- Both videocards were modded and now have solid copper rods, instead of the normal 2x6 pin connectors.
- Finised the wiring behind mobo tray
- Installed & wired leds in top and front
- Finished paintwork (right sidepanel)
- Made and sleeved 24-pin extension
- Finished and filled the loop

Basicly the build was finished a couple of weeks ago and I made the final pics last week. So without further ado, here are the final pics!
