Q6600/GPU performance

Ok, so I'm still running the old q6600. It is fine for what my crap gpu can do, and I've overclocked it to 3ghz to get the most out of it. My question is, what the highest Nvidia GPU I can handle with my current CPU? I have 8gb ddr3, so RAM isn't an issue. My chipset sucks for overclocking, so I don't have a stable OC over 3ghz. I've heard people say a gtx 770 with no bottleneck (total bs) and I've heard I'm bottlenecking my Gtx 260 (total bs as well). I have zero bottleneck and if anything, my gpu holds everything else back.

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

i ran an E8400 for a while, and that thing bottle necked a HD7770 so i would say maybe a gtx 750ti

True, I used to run an e6850, which is an old e8400 basically. It bottlenecked my gt 440, so I could see how a 7770 could have bottleneck.

I'm curious about this myself as I kind of need to choose another LGA775 quad core-I think I fried my current one along with my dual and single core.

At 3GHz I'd go no higher than 750ti.

 

Why nvidia only btw?

I have had too many bad experiences with AMD. Bought a fx-6300, it was a dud. Bought an hd 4870, it died on second startup. Bought a hd 6750, it broke within a week.

I'm not so much of a 775 expert, but I do have a good idea of their performance.

 

Anyways, I'd say 750Ti, unless you snag a great deal on a 760 or 960, but they will probably be bottlenecked.

Hey everyone

 

So i am helping my Girlfriend upgrade her old 775 machine atm

 

she has a E5700 ath , but will be swapping in a new 500w evga psu , a Q6600 , and a gtx660 ( got all of this for about $170 ) 

 

i will update you all on performance when i can :P

i would get a GTX960 if you game at 1080p and try to clock the CPU some more mine was able to do 3.6ghz under a 212 heatsink...

Some of my moderm games choked yet some were fine.

Using a q6600@3.0ghz and a 4890.

SniperV3 was using 80%+ Gpu

Grid2 would only use 60% of it.

Both games had usage spikes up n down.

Older games are a lot better but I'd just go with a bottom rung Amd 250x or Nv gtx 750.

Or just find a 2nd hand beast to throw in it.

ie:560ti/5870

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
