No, the way a LCD panel works is that if it gets a 60Hz signal it will display the image at 60Hz, but if it gets a 59Hz signal it will display 30Hz

If it could do 59Hz it would be gsync or freesync

Do you have a reference on that? I'd be interested to read it.

Not everyone plays with V-Sync on lol, getting 59 FPS would be just fine.

Edit: Oops, didn't notice you already corrected yourself.

You know that if your framerate drops below 60fps you actually only see 30 on your monitor, right?

Unless you use gsync of course, but were talking about AMD here

What? So when I'm getting 55-59 fps and it looks smooth as hell and when I'm getting 30 it looks choppy as hell, I'm just imaging things?

I need some help...so ️currently in my build I have a Gigabyte GTX 970. I want to upgrade, because I plan on soon running games on 3 monitors, So I am wondering if I should buy another 970 for SLI, or go with a 980. (Note: I doubt I will be able to sell my current card)

Actually, tearing mostly appears when your framerate exceeds 60 FPS. If it appears below, then there is something wrong with the framebuffer. Also, on your statement concerning 59 Hz - Adaptive V-Sync says hello.
