Alright so this video is a few months old but I searched and from the best I could tell it hasn't been posted so here comes the rant.

 

I MEAN REALLY, lets put a condom (Apparently not a super small condom and instead a finger condom, same thing if you ask me) on my finger first, then lets put a small amount (or alot) of thermal paste, and then lets spread it around with our condom covered finger THE WRONG WAY. I would expect a company like iFixit to research the videos they put out a little more than this but I guess not. They could have at least added a annotation saying they were wrong.

I used to work in a restaurant, we had a whole box filled with those little finger condoms in case you cut yourself. It prevents any bandaids from getting wet or gross and more importantly from giving your customers a staph infection.

You do know the pressure between the heatsink and the cooler is what spreads a bead of thermal paste to the sides of the IHS... A desktop cooler will have a much greater amount of pressure from the tension in the mounting system keeping the heatsink on the IHS. This looks like a small laptop board. The heatsink is small and probably attached with like 2 screws. If it is thick paste it isn't going to spread well under that low pressure.
