First Gaming Machine(High Resolution Gaming)

PaperCloud

Been pulling out hair lately stressing over which components I should get. I will be using a 2560x1440p monitor, and for right now i want a single gpu solution. I've heard that the 7970 performs better at higher resolutions than nvidia cards(I really don't care about brands, i just want the best performance for the money)

You guys mind helping piece together a build? It would be much appreciated. My budget is about $1500.

Gimme a bit to mock up a build for you. What case do you want and what country are you from?

Btw, The 7970 ghz editions perform the best in 1080p and 1440p :)

AMD cards do perform better at higher resolutions because of their higher amount of VRAM, but there are 4GB 670s and 680s should you want CUDA/Physx or prefer Nvidia. Just a headsup.

This is a pretty solid build for that resolution and price point.

Helltechs build will kick the nuts of my system, but try and shave a couple bucks off to stick a aftermarket heat sink in there and it will save you from the intel stock heatsink and also change his case to the r4 :) then you have yourself a system

Wow, thanks guys. I've been eyeing the r7960 lighting you've listed for a while now, brad. But i read this one weird review that you needed an adapter for that card to reach a resolution of a higher resolution monitor. Idk, maybe it was a defect with that card or something.

I'd ignore that the lightning is beast :)

At that resolution look into Helltechs build, CF 7950 are going to do quite a bit better than a single 7970.

If you're talking about the H100 that he suggested, no that's a prefab unit and there is no upkeep.

If you're talking about full watercooling, it isn't hard if you take the time to learn to do it.

That's true, I don't like to recommend crossfire or sli for new builders though as it can be a headache and just plain not work.

It's more reliable than tri or quad but still

Alright, great. Yea, right now i'll just stick with a single gpu. Once I get acclimated I may get an additional card, but as of right now I don't think it's a good idea to get ahead of myself.

The 7970 will handle anything you throw at it so there won't be a problem :) gl with the build

There is nothing to Crossfire at all. You literally just plug it in and connect a bridge, which is nothing at all. If you can install RAM you can install another GPU.

Regardless if that is the case and you really don't want to do dual GPU (you kind of have to at that resolution), get a single 7950 for now. Don't waste money on a 7970 because I can guarantee you you won't be happy with the performance of a single card, and you don't have the budget for dual 7970s.
