What the f**k?!

Downloading programs from CNet is not a good idea, as they will commonly include unwanted, and sometimes dangerous bloatware... The more you know.

What the hell.

It makes sense. It's one connection shared hundreds/thousands of people who may be using the internet at the same time.

time for me to run the longest Ethernet cable in the world from your school to my house. (only 480 miles but still might be the longest ever :))

Are the majority of people on this forum really children or just have no clue how the internet works? Do you not realise that these connections are, not only enterprise class, but also used by hundreds, if not thousands of people at once? The majority of schools have a gigabit line.

This.

A lot of the schools around here are running gigabit connections, I can get 10gig to my house if I could afford it. There are even a couple towns here in Nebraska that are beginning to offer gigabit for around $100/month.

Majority if schools have far more than 1gb, its likely that your school has far more than 1gb, but the computer only has a gig network card in it(and a gig switch, i assume). The faster speeds are also likely reserved for servers and etc.

Even i have a gig internet connection, its becoming far more common place. Thanks Google!

Sounds about right for a school.. I know most schools in Australia - high schools especially have a decent fiber connection..

Weather or not the network is correctly configured is a different matter :P

Your first questions answer is yes.

You know a proxy doesn't increase your internet speed, right?

Yep, depending on size. Rural schools get 100Mbps since they're usually pretty small. Some colleges have some pretty crazy setups, don't even get me started on University networks.
