Get windows 8, longer support life. Hard drive is probably a better idea if you can only get one drive. Why you need that case I don't know. See if you can get any cheaper ram that performs the same or better(its possible), variant of the ASRock Z97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard will be a better spend.

I would get a cheaper case, cheaper 500-650 watt psu, a cheaper ssd, cheaper ram, and a cheaper motherboard and get a 980 or 2 970's. If you go for the pair of 970's a 700 watt psu is about right.

Very nice build.  I would consider changes to the PSU.  the corsair RM is considered overpriced, and 850 is overkill unless you are for sure going SLI in the future.  as always, check PSU reviews on jonnyguru.com before you buy a PSU!!!

Otherwise its awesome.

One other point, I think Intel is going to be launching their 14nm desktop Broadwell CPUs in the next couple of months.  personally, I would wait.

I'm a big fan of waiting until the next gen is released, where practical.  Windows 10 is a few months away, I would wait for that.  And if you are waiting anyway, wait and see what next gen AMD GPUs are like.

If you don't want to wait, its still a really good build.

840 Evo drives have a firmware issue. A fix has been released but it didn't seem to help for a lot of users. I'd either step it up to an 850 series or a Crucial MX100

Why would he wait for Windows 10? He can literally upgrade to Win10 for free from this legit copy of Windows 7!

Edit; And yes, massive overkill on the PSU. An RM650 would be more than fine and even then the fan will probably never really spin up. You can also go for the Super Flower 650W unit, to match your cases colour scheme, even if it is hidden behind a shroud.

Powerline adapters are great for Internet access if your Router is in another room. I use Devolo Powerline adapters for a Lounge pc.

I don't know how good they are for online gaming though as I don't use them for that.

How do you know he doesn't have a touchscreen?

Cause if he had, then he would have already press the buy button.
