Hey guys,

Just wanted an opinion on GPUs.

Currently am buidling a rig for 1440p gaming for 1-2 years and am facing a dilemma , I have two options :

1 : Single GTX 980 with a 550W PSU.

2. Single GTX 970 with a 760W PSU (with plans to sli in the near future).

Which do you think is the better option considering issues with sli in many games.

Thanks in advance...:D

SNIP

Difficult decision, I think SLI 970s are probably a good enough option for 1440p 60, for reference my 780ti manages it just fine and is around the same power

that said, perhaps the 980 is the better investment - but get a PSU capable of SLI, then in 6-12 months when the 980 drops in price pick up a second one for future gaming

Also for games that dont support SLI you will have a stronger card

its always to best to have one powerful card than 2 lesser so. admittedly 2 970s would wipe the floor with a 980.

both would be adequate at 1440p as single cards to play games at 1440p 60fps.

id get the 980. its not so much an issue now but the vram issue with the 970 may be a problem in later life with games requiring more vram in the future.

If you live in America I'd recommend two 290x's as they're super cheap right now (two 290x's are about the same price as a 980) and will vastly out perform the single 970/980 in every game that supports crossfire (most nowadays). http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=103515&vpn=AXR9%20290X%204GBD5-TDHE&manufacture=PowerColor&promoid=1452

I hit 60fps in every game at 1440 with my gtx980. in 1-2 years you might be turning down the anti-aliasing or maybe going from "ultra" to "very high" but should be fairly sorted with a single card.
