Better sound without dac?

IM getting better sound from onboard (Msi 970a-g43) then from dac (Silverstone eb01) on my akg k7xx.

Is this because i need an amp for my dac?

I dont have an amp.

If you are hearing anything from your DAC, it has an amp.

hmm, not sure why onboard sounds better then...

maby i need more powerful amp?

Not really how it works. 

then do you know why it would sound better with onboard then a dac?

Because onboard works great and most solutions are redundant and pointless. 

Shouldent it not sound worse tho?

I guess i only wasted 20$ on the dac...

Should sound as well as it was designed. 

I mean, it got good reviews.

I'm not seeing a 1/4" or 1/8" jack on the eb01, how did you connect them?

Will work for electronic components and parts

@spwath no he's a dood.  Basically, mayonnaise is a gender because of the way SSL and Emorarity feel about eachother.

 

(He's actually a guy though, for cereal.)

 

If you want an amp & dac for the sake of spending money, something like the Syba Dac, or Fiio e10k will be plenty.

 

But if your onboard already powers them nicely and sounds good to your ears, there won't be a very noticeable upgrade. (Nor do you really need to upgrade for that matter)

It's possible it's only a DAC and he's hearing line level output. Although line level output should sound utter crap.

 

@OP: if you're still curious, you can try getting Fiio E6, but that's spending more money. So it's up to you. Best is to borrow someone's portable amp to try it.

You can plug a headphone into a DAC and get sound, but if it isn't designed to drive headphones it will sound bad.
