i have a Acer H226HQL bid

I've connected the hdmi to my ggb r9 270 and it detected it as a generic PnP monitor

I've updated windows 7 with all the new updates wasted my time for no reason and i have nothing to spare on this computer anymore.

What should I do?

Just an fyi, 99% of monitors are detected as generic PnP monitors. There is nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact, here is mine:

So unless I am missing something, since when do monitors need drivers?

All the display modes are communicated on HDMI/DVI via DDC.

I think he does not need driver either, the driver file must be for older operating system. I guess monitor showing up as Generic PnP monitor is okay, since mine also shows up like that.

See my reply above. He needs to set scaling in CCC, its a common issue with AMD cards and HDMI monitors.

Honestly, try windows update.  My TV and both my monitors show up as generic pnp's until I finish my first round of windows updates on a fresh install.  If they are new, just try doing a windows update manually and then give it a reboot.
