yeah it "bottlenecks" any GPU, but it will only be about 5-10% depending on the game

No, I @EarthboundHero has a R9 280X with a A10 before and didn't experience any bottleneck, so I believe a 960 won't bottleneck it, maybe in Newer AAA games, if you don't play AAA games then your fine.

What? I have a 280, and a 7850K and have experienced bad bottlenecks in some games. To the point where they're unplayable. Don't get the 860K for that GPU.

iGPU?

i will say lock it to 1GHz

disable C6 state

enable Cool N Quiet mode

set the FSB to 2000MHz

enable the memory clock to 2133MHz

and OC to 4.5GHz at 1.4+ volts

Honestly, if you're just trying to play video games you don't really need to care about bottlenecks.  You'll get 1080p/60 FPS just fine.

If you want to push 100+ FPS, then you can start worrying.

Bro what happened to your testing on the 4k?

thats is the problem here

at stock clocks the A10 will bottleneck the 280

of course when you OC you need to add more voltage otherwise it will be unstable

do what i mentioned for the CPU side of the A10 and crank up the speed

you APU need more speed

Ah I understand, school should always come first.  :)

Difference in gaming performance with high-end GPUs such as a GTX Titan is within a margin of 10% by overclocking from 3.7 to ~4.5GHz. Bulldozer family chips' gaming performance I expect is bottlenecked mostly by the cache rather than the clock speed. Really it's just gonna depend on the games and settings you're running at, it's not as simple as saying X CPU will bottleneck Y GPU. An i7 can bottleneck a GTX 760 if you play at 720P 200 FPS in BF4 MP, and a Pentium could support SLI Titans just fine playing at 4K 60 FPS in Tomb Raider.

But for triple A titles an R9 280 being held back by an A10 doesn't surprise me tbh, overclocked or not.

That said, PC upgrading is a game of leapfrog anyways. The GTX 960 would be held back somewhat by the A10-7850K in some games, but then you can upgrade your CPU in a year or two. Not to mention the 960 would still handwalk circles around the integrated graphics on the A10-7850K. It's still a worthwhile upgrade, just one where the fullest potential won't be seen with the current CPU... no big deal.

I went Q6600 + old ass Radeon HD 4000 series card to Q6600 + GTX 560, then to an i5-4690K + GTX 560, then to i5-4690K + GTX 760... each upgrade produced a substantial improvement to performance, but there was always a bottleneck somewhere. Although having said that I think my GPU is gonna be the first to be upgraded here rather than the i5-4690K lol... BF4 can run 64p multiplayer with CPU intensive settings (Ambient Occlusion/HBAO and Mesh Quality) set to ultra at over 110fps minimum framerate (

), so I don't think it'll be needing an upgrade any time soon :D

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

Pfff i can push upward of 220FPS consistently with those settings mate...not impressed :P

(just kidding of course... :) but still i can do that!)

TO OP: CHECK the numbers and BENCHMARKS the GTX 960 is not worth the pricetag it's a crippled low-end 2GB card on very narrow memory bus...look for an R9 280 or R9 280X GPU instead or HD7950 / HD7970.
