Alternatives to ATH-M50X?

A friend of mine is looking for some headphones for audio monitoring and producing. He looked at the ATH-M50X but cancelled his order pretty quickly. I want to know some good alternatives I could tell him about. Keep in mind he will be using these in a college and studio environment so closed back is essential for him.

The M40x, which is the M50x for what the M50x should cost, there are also things like SRH440's, HD380 Pros, and CHC's if he is feeling cheap.

SRH840 is probably more neutral than M40X or M50X, if music production is what you're looking for
