Yup, like the others said, download the drivers for your motherboard/hardware from their websites (not from the CDs they give you!) and then you can start downloading Steam, games etc etc. :)

(never heard of Ninite suggested by @soaringchicken but after looking at it, it looks incredibly useful! I don't know if it uses the latest files, but oh well, updates can be run after I guess.)

I believe Linus uses it and Austin Evans too.

have not used it myself, but seems very helpful

Search Ninite on google to get the website and you'll figure it out. DO NOT use the drivers from the discs, download them from the manufacturers website

Ah, cool! Now that you mention I think I remember someone talking about Linus using it before. I'll have to check Ninite out when I reinstall Windows. All that convenience?  Seems too go to be true. :P

As for your drivers, you will have to go to the websites of the hardware you own to download the latest stuff (don't do the BIOS though; if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

If you need help with the downloads or anything, just post here and we can help. :)

. DO NOT use the drivers from the discs, download them from the manufacturers website

Why have you bolded(wd?) that?  Sometimes the driver on the disc (though it might be older) is sure to work or workarounds/bug fixes are easy to find with Google,  sometimes new drivers have hidden bugs, (the newest driver is not ALWAYS the best , hence the driver roll-back feature).

I would agree that 'normally' as the disc may have been produced months ago the drivers may well be superceded, so newer ones are usually available.

It is a 'rule of thumb' not a hard and fast rule that you should not use the drivers on the disc.

Oh and just as an aside not everyone has NIC drivers on a USB stick so good luck getting on the Internet to download drivers without a driver :) , (quite often Windows will not recognise a NIC).
