I can't think of a logical title... Windows 7 "Clients?"

Alright, so, I was kinda planning on having multiple computers with Windows 7 running on the same network, and I want to have it where I can "push" updates and programs to them from a different location, kind of like what my school is able to do. How on earth would I go about doing this?

They usually use a 3rd party program, it can also be used to push fork bombs to all the computers in the lab.  :lol:

Psh, as long as I can get the program, I'm happy.

 

Also, I don't know if I should put it on a domain or just a new workgroup.

not sure how but i'm pretty sure you will have to use win7 enterprise on all the PCs

I have ways of copying them from the school computers and deactivating the Windows authentication crap.

 

Schools / Universities get licenses for free (DreamSpark). I have multiple Enterprise-Editions as well as servers running of my Dreamspark / University-Account for free and completely legit.

Sadly, my school is too damn crappy to do that, even though we have national recognition for the elementary school I attended as well as our high school.

Lots of schools and business use windows images one way of doing this is using a fog sever but the computers have to have the same hardware for it to work. Or you could have them all boot from the network as use virtual machines running on a sever.

I think the way our school does it is with that one Symnatec program another user mentioned, since the IT guys can push out updates and programs while the computers are still running, and they do indeed run independently.

You'll have trouble finding a free piece of software to do this for you because it's generally only done by sysadmins, and their budgets are usually pretty considerable. I helped set up some software to do this at a company, and their IT department described the $500 software that we used as "cheap".

You'll need to run a server OS to be able to push updates across your Win7 client machines. Win7 Enterprise is not a server OS.
