Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows any guides or tips to overclocking a Haswell i3, thanks.

My system: i3 4330 | Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP | Asus R9 280X DC2T | 2x4GB DDR3 2400 CL10 1.65v | 128GB Samsung 830 | 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Thermaltake Tough Power 750w 80+ Gold | Zalman CNPS9900AT

eeeh not quite. you can try to change bclk.

bclk doesn't exist anymore?

Because it's not a bad combination?

The 4150 is the same CPU but cheaper because it has a worse iGPU. ($20-$50 cheaper)

And because he is using a 280X, why does he need a better iGPU.

You cannot effectively overclock an i3. It's a pain to use BCLK.

Not really, since everything has started to become integrated into the CPU its a lot more difficult to overclock by using the FSB, and you will be hard pressed to find a new motherboard that even supports changing the FSB, unlike the old ones which even had dirt cheap motherboards overclocking CPUs.

judging by how he is using z87 he built this rig before haswell refresh.

Wow I didn't expect such an explosion of replies, you guys are awesome! Hah, it took my so long to see this because I'm playing Rift and was doing dungeons hah!

Anyway...

To start, I did know the multiplier is locked, I just wanted to see if anyone knows a tried and tried and true method to a stable Bclk overclock.

The reason for my purchasing decisions was purely Black Friday (last year) ... Also, I had a $900 budget and wanted the most gaming performance for my dollar...I got the 4330 over the 4150 because it was $20 cheaper at the time, the RAM was cheaper than an average 2x4 1600 CL9 set, and many other things like that including the overkill PSU...

This was built before Haswell refresh (last year).

And my main problem is stability in the PCI-E bus...mainly I get an unstable GPU when my CPU is overclocked via the Bclk and it causes crashes no matter how much voltage I throw at any of the various control in the CPU. I don't have the option to split the multiplier going to the busses from the FSB unless I put in a K sku CPU (like a 4790k).

So maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I can throw voltage at the System Agent (which is where the PCI-E bus is, but it doesn't help, even if I set my RAM to 1600 @ 1.5v, I still get an unstable GPU (even when I underclock the GPU).

Is there some setting I'm missing, or something else I should be adjusting the voltage for?

Still, if anyone knows any tried-and-true methods to Bclk overclocking a Haswell i3 or a good guid you might refer to that would be really helpful.

You can't do anything and don't try Bclk overclocking as that is the "variable" that affects other system components which may cause instability. Your graphic card is a mid range anyways, so overclocking your cpu or gpu wouldn't be that much different than stock.

cr*p, we don't have those 44** here..only 4130, 4150, & 4160..i use the 4150..

if those 44** were available here, I would've gotten that since I have a gpu...

i'm not an OCer, so I wouldn't try messing with Bclk OCing..if something interesting should come up here, then who knows.lol

No, the 4160 and 4150 are the best with a GPU.
