Is this normal?

So my family has been giving me shit because when I have friends over I bring them upstairs because that's where my room is. Along the way is a POS alarm system that only makes noise if triggered, doesn't notify the authorities or anything of the sort. My family, who I think is being unreasonably paranoid. is saying I shouldn't bring my friends upstairs cause that's where everything is and only family members belong upstairs, as well as saying that they can't be trusted since they can see it, unplug it and break in. Most of my friends who live in multistory houses often have rooms on the second floor and when we hang we hang in their room. 

 

Basically is my family being unreasonable or are they "correct".

I guess they can be classified as the over-protective types. Assure them that your friends are chill and that if anything like what they imagine happens, it'll all be on you.

I'm sure your friends don't act or look anything like robbers or kidnappers right?

Generally speaking I would say they are being unreasonable but if your friends are crack shooting brain dead scum they might have a point... regardless if they intended to break in I don't think not knowing the layout of your upstairs area would stop them

Still at the end of the day it your parents house and you should respect their rules regardless of how absurd they are... well... within reason...

 No but they're black and my family's a bunch of racist asians. I've tried explaining to them that these guys are cool (I've known them since elementary and middle school and we're all 19) mut they're response is only "You don't know. People are crazy". It doesn't help that we live in Oakland though.

Other than the occasional joint or alcoholic beverage they're pretty normal guys. When they do partake in substances they tend to be lazier versions of themselves.

And if you've been friends with these guys since elementary, then you should definitely know if they are "crazy" or not.You know them more than your folks do. Your parent's arguments are invalid.

Their argument was invalid when they said "friends cant be trusted". They wouldn't be friends if I didn't trust them.

My parents say the exact same thing lol, they're like, your bedroom is only for the family, and the literal Vietnamese translation of living room is "visitor room", so they're like bring your "visitors" to the "visitor room"

You're Vietnamese too? If it's a Vietnamese thing then I guess this is a clash of American culture vs Vietnamese culture.

I assume they legitimately distrust anyone but family, but black people they especially distrust.
