Should i get a new cable for my monitor?

SpagettiNinja

Hello. I have a Asus VG248QE as you can see in my signature. This monitor goes up to 144 Hz. Out of the box, it comes with a DVI-D cable. Now, i recently learned that DVI-D doesnt support more than 85 Hz at 1080p (Why Asus makes 144 Hz screens and then ships them with non-compatible cables is beyond me). First, is that correct? And if so, should i go and get a new (other) cable to use? That would be HDMI or DisplayPort. Im not sure if HDMI supports 144 Hz, i am pretty sure DisplayPort does. Anyways, is this worth it, do i even need that new cable, and, if so, which cable should i get, if any?

If you want the full strength of 144 HZ then get a display port cable, as they are not that expensive. If you are content with 85 (Which I believe is true through DVI-D, might be 75 or something), then stick with it. Might as well get it if you can afford it.

if you do end up getting a new cable, get a cheap one.

however if you do want to game at 144Hz than get a display port cable.

120 Hz is not even imagined for delivery, because it would imply a large increase in bit rate for a small benefit.

I am fairly sure that HDMI 2.0 supports 144Hz perfectly fine.

But to be safe I'd go for display port.
