What keycaps do you prefer?

Just a thead for keycap discussion, don't think there is such a thing

already.

So what keycap do you prefer? abs/pbt? double shot, laser printed,

dye sublimation, sideways/topways, blank? color scheme? key layout?

what are you currently using? Shout out your preference and reasoning,

post pictures if you like.

Will make a poll when i got time to include(hopefully) all the options.

That looks like wine tasting to me: a shitload of terms, I don't understand half of them and I have no idea how the other half affects the subject, and at the end of the day they're all pretty much keycaps.

But I'm using a K800, so what do I know :P Although I'm looking at DasKeyboard 4 now (the one w/o symbols) and I really wanna buy it.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

I would settle for just getting a really affordable mechanical keyboard in the future.  Hopefully one day the mechanical keyboard is all there is replacing what else is out there.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I've got 4 sets. Default V60, Default Quickfire TK, KBP DoubleShots (ABS) and the Granite R2.

Not got the Doubleshots on anything at the mo, as I moved it off my V60.

Prefer my Granites the most for the feel, so I guess

PBT, DyeSub. Also quite like the DSA layout, but not really much between that and standard.

Its currently on my V60 60% board.

Quickfire TK just has the default ones on, but I have LED covers on to add some colour to the normally White LEDs.

I use stock g710+ Keycaps, and the only thing I don't like about them is the fact that they come off easily, which can be good too.

Another thing that I have done is flip the space bar around, I know I am not the only one who has done it and prefers it this way, because Matt Schaefer does it (that is how I found out), highly recommend people to try it if you haven't already.

Anyway, when I get a new keyboard, idk when it will be a ten-keyless with Cherry MX Browns  and either a white, purple or RGB backlight, and then I will put on the G710+ keycaps if I don't like the ones that comes pre-installed, or get some other ones, idk.

Lol, it's very straight forward, easier than it looks like :P

i will add some terminology explanations and work on the

thread when i have time. It could potentially turn into a

pretty cool thread. blank key caps can be pretty nice for

that extra nerd factor :P

I would settle for just getting a really affordable mechanical keyboard in the future.  Hopefully one day the mechanical keyboard is all there is replacing what else is out there.

Well, rubber dome/membrane still has positive qualities.

I don't see replacing it entirely with mechanical keys being

practical.

It's cheaper/easier to make and can be easier on the fingers

due to that stable/mushy support they provide.

You could try a TKL cooler master keyboard, or buying

something used. But i would definitely try the switches

before buying a full keyboard, it's all about finding the

right switch for you. every mechanical switch doesn't

necessarily feel better than membrane.

I use stock g710+ Keycaps, and the only thing I don't like about them is the fact that they come off easily, which can be good too.

Not really a fan of the TKL form factor, atleast if your not

pulling the keyboard around with you, white leds can be

pretty nice.

My biggest gripe with ABS keys is when they become

shiny/glossy from the finger oil/acid. The keyboard is

literally separated into 3 different main sections with

different keycaps depending on the most frequently

used keys.. and f5 looks different due to refreshing

the page compared to all other mostly unused f keys...

Ideally I'd want thick PBT with side/front printed in Colemak 60% layout and blank tops. Colors can vary as long as it has some uniform pattern and doesn't look like Minecraft just threw up on my keyboard.

This doesn't exist, of course. :P

Well yeah, that is pretty specific. So probably not.

Either way, finding it would be a massive pain in

the arse.

solid titanium keycaps

Well, i am pretty confident in my ability to interpret your comment

when i say that you are most likely pulling our legs.

But titanium keycaps are a thing, and if that's true. You are obliged,

required to post pictures, and you don't have a say in the matter just

so you know :P

Massdrop is doing vortex doubleshot PBT keycaps right now for a pretty reasonable price.

(DISCLAIMER, they sadly aren't offering the blue/white color scheme)

I personally don't like double shot color schemes all that much,

i think it looks too much like they are imitating toys. Dyesub is

vastly superior in aesthetics in my opinion. But i can only speak

for myself.

But they're ANSI layout :(

#UKISOproblems

For the PBT specimen I'll almost certainly be getting some Ducky engraved ones.

-edit- I don't see why the green and white schemes don't get more hype around them, they look nicer than the blues imo

I like the Ducky PBT blanks a lot. I used to have a set of the cream cheese and green, but I sold those. So I will be getting a second set soon.

Oh lol, ok. You are getting the engraved ones... you can disregard

my message below then, haha :P. Honestly though. I live in Norway

and i have just spent 115$ on ANSI keycaps and 165$ on a 104 key

keyboard. I am sacrificing my ÆØ and Å for more convenient bracket

placement. Also 99% of all my written communication happens through

english.. so i don't really care. A big enter key is nice, but a small

sacrifice for convenience and more options.

*Disregard*

Oh man.... if you are looking for the thick green/white PBT dye-sub

keycaps from ducky.. well good luck. As far as i am aware i only

managed to randomly find ONE guy that sells them, and i think

that he is pretty much literally the only guy that has them.

And he didn't even manage to get his hands on the grey/blue ones,

they are some Chinese/us hybrid. I ended up paying 115$ for them,

and i have to add those were ANSI.

i have spent literally every single waking hour for the past 9 days

searching for ducky premier keyboards and keycaps :P, needless

to say i had little luck in my research, even after emailing about 10

stores and going directly to a distributor in Finland.

Most of the PBT caps ducky sells are either laser engraved or blank.

For me the selling point really is the dye-sublimation.

Ducky ones are really nice, just grab some before they run out.

For me it's the dye-sublimation that makes them look so

delicious though.

Oh! and i have to ask, does the white keys get dirty quickly?

i was actually looking for the blue/gray ones because i didn't

want to deal with filthy keycaps.

They were cream white, so they don't pick up a lot of colour.

Oh, so they have more of a yellowish tint than it may

look like on the pictures? if so. That's pretty darn sweet.

Well.. it is called cream cheese... but they look very white

on the pictures i have seen.

Yeah, they have a definite yellow tint in real life. Not like piss yellow, but a tint. And they definitely don't stain as much as white ones in my experience. But it just might be that I am a bit of a sucker for clean hands when using my keyboards/mouses.

Ah man, that rosewill frame looks so niceee.

Hm, not so sure about the exact coloring in that

picture, but yeah i see what you mean, thanks.

It's bound to be nicer than pure white anyhow..

I just flipped my space bar, that is such a win. It's

awesome when you are resting your hand on the WAD

keys, less nice while typing. Flipped space bar and

wrist rest is the way of comfort. This has made me

realize how shitty spacebars are designed... times

you wish you had a 3D printer.

I also stumbled upon this random person with a flipped

space bar. http://imgur.com/a/mwFCQ So it might not

be all that uncommon.

My spacebar is flipped, and has been for about a month.

Reading your previous comments, I've considered getting an ANSI too, but I can't give up the '£' sign.

Alternatively you could just write pound? :P

if it's internet or form related i can't imagine

those sites would actually ask you to write £

to indicate your currency..
