Hey

I'm currently writing a tutorial and information for LTT (partial raid), but I'm looking ahead to my next one. I want to know how many people here would benefit from this.

I want to know what dead GPUs you have lying around.

GPU Type: Dedicated, Onboard, MXM (no APUs)

GPU Model:

What is the problem: (Physical Damage, Power Surge, Artifacts on Screen, no output, crashes drivers or works intermittently, does nothing)

What do you wish to do with it : (fix it yourself, sell it broken, Fix and Sell, Keep in a bin )

Would you be interested in tips to fix it? (not all problems can be fixed, obviously)

Would you be interested in donating it as a part to fix in a tutorial? (I'll likely just buy a few dead GPUs off of ebay, but it's good to ask)

Thanks!

Cool survey, regrettably font have any dead gpus, but i look forward to seeing your results.

I'm also looking to do a really really general survey about broken laptops in the future, but I'm waiting. I want to write a general laptop repair guide, but it's a complicated thing. But both for that and this I want a good idea of the common problems and where people stand.

What do you wish to do with it : Fix and Sell (I fixed it 2 or 3 times already by baking it in the oven)

Would you be interested in tips to fix it? If it was cheap and would last for a long time,so i can sell it without guilt

Well the only dead GPU I ever had I've gotten rid of... But it was a Gainward GeForce GTX 9800+, cause of death: dead fan.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

If I fry something while OCing it, like my GPUs (I do BIOS modding so I OC extreme) they go into the trashcan unless it is an EVGA card. Other than that if I get a DOA GPU I'll just RMA it. And I change GPUs in my highend machine very frequently (every 3-9 months depending what's coming out), so I don't have any old stuff laying around. People say a lot about me but they don't call me nostalgic and keeping old damaged hardware ;) .

Did it work temporarily?

Depending on how you did the bake, there's really not much more you can do aside from using a proper reflow oven.

All my GPU's are alive and kicking, never had one die on me in my entire time playing games on PC. (About 13 years now.)

I've got an X800, a 4850, 2 270X's and a 7870 in some form or another all completely functional.  Sold my 5850's to a friend for LTC mining and I have no idea if they're still alive, so I guess I'll never have the closure I need with those.  There's also a Nvidia TNT2 pro lying around somewhere but I haven't plugged that PC in for about 8 years now.

GPU Type: Integrated

GPU Model: HD-3000

What is the problem: When I tried sending it for warranty they said it was water damage (bullshit) they fixed it eventually

What do you wish to do with it : the laptop is still working under the gentle care of my dad (hahaha cracked touch screen and frame and multiple scratches)

Would you be interested in tips to fix it? Already fixed you just have to shout at the right people

Would you be interested in donating it as a part to fix in a tutorial? Its still in use so no

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

GPU Type: Dedicated

GPU Model: Nvidia Geforce 256 32MB

What is the problem: Dead fan, doesn't work after being in storage for over 10 years

What do you wish to do with it : Slowly diagnosing faults and repairing as I find them, replacing heatsink and fan with something beefier

Would you be interested in tips to fix it? If I can't fix it myself If I can't fix it myself yes

Would you be interested in donating it as a part to fix in a tutorial? Possibly, if the Asus card can be repaired

GPU Type: Dedicated

GPU Model: Forgotten, but its an early 64MB Asus card (one of the first)

What is the problem: Doesn't work after being in storage for over 10 years (similar deal to the 256, passively cooled)

What do you wish to do with it : Slowly diagnosing faults and repairing as I find them (same as 256)

Would you be interested in tips to fix it? If I can't fix it myself yes

Would you be interested in donating it as a part to fix in a tutorial? Only if I can't fix it myself

I have a Diamond Stealth 3D Pro 2000 (pci,8MB) and a Diamond Stealth 3 S540 Savage (AGP, 32MB) that both work as well.

  • First time when I baked it,stayed for about 5 months or so
  • Second time when I baked it,stayed for 3 months or so
  • Third time I am not sure...
  • I didn't bother trying again, though i feel it will work again but i have been using my IGPU for the past few months and waiting for me to get the 970 (I haven't played a single game......since then)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

GPU Type: Dedicated

GPU Model: 7300GS / 9600SE

What is the problem: Artifacts on screen, faulty vram / No display

What do you wish to do with it : baked both long time ago ;)

Would you be interested in tips to fix it? yes

Would you be interested in donating it as a part to fix in a tutorial? I dont have them anymore

And I'm really interested in a tutorial for fixing graphics cards, especially because I have a faulty 660 now. But the problem is a bit difficult, details are here http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/299974-possibly-dead-graphics-card/ , if you might want to have a look at it, thanks a lot :)

GPU Model: AMD HD 7850

What is the problem: Diagnosed as fried VRAM

What do you wish to do with it : Most likely sell it as broken

Would you be interested in tips to fix it?: From what I understand it is beyond repair, but if anyone had any tips for fixing it I would love to hear them

Would you be interested in donating it as a part to fix in a tutorial?: Most likely not, though it's probably isn't fixable in any case
