Hi

I am building a new pc and i would like advice on which processor should i use. I only intend to game, no video editing or streaming, just simply game.
Right now i am torn between
AMD FX 4300 with 4 cores

AND

AMD FX 6300 with 6 cores

also if someone could suggest a suitable motherboard which can allow medium level overclocking, then that would be of great help.

Lastly i want to add an amd r9 270 graphics card. Can tell which psu should i go with.

A 430W PSU will be fine. I think the EVGA B2 500W is pretty cheap though, I'd go with that. The 6300 will have a bit more power, and extra cores if the game needs them. I'd go 6300. As for motherboard I don't know.

A great motherboard for overclocking is the Sabertooth 990fx. Also i would recommend either a 500 or 600W PSU.

if you have a tighter budget for motherboard go for asus m5 a97 r2,0....

otherwise sabretooth and the asus m5a99fx is too good...

The M5A97 R2.0 is out of stock and I don't think they're going to make them anymore.

wait....wait hold on. i am still stuck on psu...is it 430w or 600w. Can someone clear it out.

thanks guys

I'd go 500W just to be safe, but if you must, 430 should be fine.

Don't go under 500 for your system. I reccomend the CX600 from Corsair. It's sitting in my system and I love this thing.

An I3/I5 is much better than any FX for gaming

You ha better not be doing any overclocking on that board. the difference between the M5A97 R2.0 and the LE version is no mosfet heatsink, you will burn out your board really fast if you try to do anything from stock.

I picked the LE? I thought I picked the R2.0, I'll change that now

Would an FM2+ board and Athlon 860k be better than the FX series?

The FX series is a proven platform but Im worried about its compatibility in the near future. Also the Athlon has slightly better Single core performance or even greater performance with some tiny overclocks. I know you can get more cores on the FX series, but games are rarely optimized for that many cores and even pentiums perform just as good or better.

Some good things about the Athlon is that its 4 cores, updated architecture, PCIe 3.0, FM2+, $80 super cheap. Also I know some games are having issues on 2 core processor thanks to shitty DEVs/Publishers.

I think you can survive with out a CD Drive and SSD for a bit :)

Case: NZXT Source 210 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($34.99 @ Directron)
Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($55.03 @ Newegg)
