What would you pay for 2 x 6970s?

DeViLzzz

I am just curious as to what you people think 2 x 6970 cards are worth?  Also what is the max you would pay for them?  Some guy in our local classifieds is selling them for $200 total.  Also would an e5200 overclocked to the max bottleneck 2 x 6970s?

I would pay $300 for new ones and $175-$215 for used ones. The reason is because crossfire 6970's outperform a 290X (I realize that's a 6990, but it's mostly the same) minus the newer features and VRAM. Then consider heat/power usage. So about that much myself.

$90-$120 USD as it's a older card that is not very power efficient and also doesn't support mantle I think

Shouldn't use hwcompare to compare GPUs if they don't have actual in-game benchmarks for the combination. Not saying that 6990 < 290X, but just pointing it out as if there's no benchmarks then hwcompare just compares specs on paper.

@DeViLzzz

This thread shows just how little LTT people know about the used hardware market and why the classifieds are a terrible place to buy from

In regards to hardwareswap I have never heard of it and it probably is one of those sites where there is an honor system and you could end up losing your shirt after you send the money or the product.  If that is not so then cool.

Update: Checked it out. LOL! It is reddit and while they have a rating system no guarantee sellers are going to honor anything still.  I do like at least though I have a place to check for pricing but no way am I going to ship off cards to anyone on there. LOL

Again showing how little people know. That's why there's stuff like PayPal buyer protection and you pay attention to who you sell with. A lot more expensive stuff then your 6970 is bought and sold everyday. It is by far the best place to buy and sell used hardware. Unless you deal in person and want to risk just getting stabbed then there's no other good option

I'd rather buy in person and there are safe ways of doing that.  I have never had a live transaction go poorly.  As for PayPal buyer protection I'd have to look closer at what their policies are for sales between just regular people but will look at some point.  Still I will take a face to face transaction every single time over dealing with some stranger over the net totally for the transaction sending money to God knows who.

Well I just got one for 50$ (includes shipping) off of ebay. So I would say if you look for it you can get some good deals on some used parts.

Also, the 6950 can be essentially upgraded to a 6970 so if you see that you can get two of those as wells.

Definitely worth $100 each if they have decent coolers.

I am addicted to building gaming PCs but I don't have a great reason to stop...yet...
