Upgrade to amd?

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

Hello, i currently have an i5 3570 and i have been thinking of selling it and getting a 8320 because it has 8 cores

and games are really starting to benifit from that i know it has poor single peformance but with dx12 and mante....

so what do you guys think and again i know the single core peformance is really bad

Thats a downgrade.  Just because a game can use 8 threads, doesn't mean it benefits from it.  You can count the number of games that really benefit from more threads on one hand, and an i5 still performs better than an FX8 in all but one of them, and that one is a difference of 1fps which is margin of error.

nope...

It'll be better to get an i7 that is compatible with your mobo instead...

No... Im pretty sure that would actually perform worse in games (If at all then maybe an improvement in BF4)

The 8320 would be a downgrade in many ways. Yes, the multi-threaded performance would be slightly better, but the single-threaded performance would be significantly worse. You'd be better off buying an Xeon E3 1230 V2 if you wanted better multi-threaded performance, which you'd only need if you wanted to game/stream or render or other heavily multi-threaded tasks.

i know i know just talking about the proper multi core support of dx12

Its not going to be truly implemented in games for many many years.  It took a long time for DX11 to really be used, and DX12 will help Intel out as well.

Haha! Nice title. As if you could "upgrade" to amd cpu's. Lol, this humor made my day.

as you can see by this the 3570(k) and the 8320 do trade blows here and there but the i5 is just better overall. not to mention you would have to buy a new mobo and thats more money down the drain. generally no one "upgrades" to AMD

It's more expensive for the CPU, but you wont have to buy a new motherboard or anything so it comes to around the same. Also, the 1230 v2 is only 187:

That's not the same CPU, and that's not the same currency. You want the V2, not V3 (different socket and slighty different architecture). Also both the 1231 and 1230 will do, so whichever is cheaper. That website doesn't even have the v2.

Keep in mind this is only relevant for non-gaming workloads.

Here, this should ship to you (only buy if you have a current need for better multi-threaded performance):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-BX80637E31230V2-Processor-PC-LGA1155/dp/B0084JTFMI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421254217&sr=8-1&keywords=1230+v2

using google's conversion, that comes out to 235 euros

However an FX-8320 + GA-970A-UD3P (cheapest board to support FX-8 core overclocking) and Cooler Master 212 Evo comes out to 246 Euro. It would be silly to get the FX.
