I have rubbing alcohol(isopropyl). I find coffee filters are too large and thin, so can I use q-tips and just continually wipe until it's all off? I don't care about time, as long as it's safe. And for drying, can I just use a dry q-tip and wipe until clean? Also, is it normal that the CPU numbers are getting worn off?

Yes that's fine too I usually use toiletpaper without alcohol if it isn't dried out.

I would use toilet paper instead, cotton has longer fibers that are fairly loose.

Doesn't toilet paper have it as well?

Toilet paper is not loose, it's well packed together, atleast decent one.

I'm pretty sure I use cottonel, all I know is that it's not a no-name brand. It has a picture of a lady touching the paper on the package plastic, if I remember correctly. I'm assuming this is OK. I'd understand if a dry q tip would leave lint behind, but wouldn't one dipped in isopropyl kind of make it a tight formation?

Yes, as long as it does not leave stuff behind it's fine.

Can I test to see if it leaves stuff behind by just wiping it on a table or something? Dry? And then with rubbing alcohol?

Just clean your damn cpu, if it leaves stuff behind you will have to clean with another thing, it's not going to melt it, jesus. :D

I use a microfiber with isopropyl to clean tp off

This is also my preferred method. Microfiber gets ALL of it off in like 2 decent wipes

I use 99% iso and clean it off first with toilet paper. Then after I have gotten off all the junk, I do a 2nd run with a microfiber cloth also with iso 99%, to further clean and get any little fibers from the toilet paper. Have not had any issues with this method yet.

@TrickyWitcher

I buy 99%  iso Alcohol Swabs from Rite Aid o remove the old paste until it is all gone, then I let it dry (air) or use paper towels or a microfiber. Toilet paper is fine, too, but it can "fall" apart and leave pieces behind so that's my least recommend way of drying it. As long as you don't press hard enough to break something or scratch something, you will be fine with drying it.
