Only you can answer that question. If you need a PC now, go for it. By the time Haswell-E comes out we will know of something like Broadwell-E or Skylake-E. Do you want to wait for those aswell? Technology changes a lot, there is no "waiting", there is only the question of whether you need an upgrade now or later.

Wait. The X99 chipset will feature an entirely new socket, chipset, architecture, and DDR4 RAM. If your system is still decent right now, it's best to wait another year.

And not to forget SATA Express and 8-core CPU's.

If you have money, then what the hell just get something now and something then. Because x99 will be expensive, i doubt that DDR4 will be cheap

We can't answer the question of whether the wait is worth it, if we don't know how much you lose by waiting.

Is there any reason not to wait?  What is your situation?

''most of the parts are 5 years old and some about 3 years old and some less then a year. but this system is slowly giving up on me its starting to have hardware fails but it will maybe hold another year so its a little bit pressing on my thoughts to wait or to buy ;\''

and what i mean with hardware fails is :

not booting

booting but not going any furter then the booting screen

not going on, even when shorting the pins on the q connector from asus

X99 is meant for Haswell-Extreme processors which will be released sometime next year and will require new motherboards due to DDR4 and other architectural changes. They are releasing Ivy-Bridge Extreme in September according to the articles from Guru3D and AnandTech. These CPUs can be used with X79 Motherboards. They are said to be 5-10% faster across the board.

Hopefully they don't use the crappy TIM like Intel used on the Ivy Bridge series and solders them down like Sandy Bridge with proper IHS. To be honest with you, I'm going with the 3930K simply because I'm getting one for 400$. To buy a 4930K, I will have to shell out 650+tax which I really don't want to do. I am also not sure how well they overclock and how much more heat they generate. I know I can get the 3930K to atleast 4.2Ghz and not have it heat up a storm. I hope you have enough information to make a decision.

Keep this in mind

Gaming (and have more than 2 GPUs) and Video Editing = Extreme Processors

Gaming (<=2GPUs) only = Normal Processors

This is all dependent on cost and what you feel you want.

This was my thoughts to but x99 will have DDR4 but then again you never know if any new x79 boards will to in the future. JJ of Asus has said time and time again that x79 is going nowhere and it is wise to invest in x79. He personally referd me to the P9X79 WS E for a dedicated home/small business server/personal cloud storage/video editing rig. However which ever route i go either x79 or x99 i won't be building another PC until 2022 if i am alive.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

If you can wait, then there's Ivy-Bridge Extreme that gets released in US/Canada in September. You can't blindly buy on release day because you need to wait for about 10-15 reviews to kick in and overclockers to get their hands on this to give you a range of overclocking frequencies. So if you are looking to buy IB-E then wait till end of September otherwise go for SB-E when you have the money.

i have the feeling that ib-e 2011 will have the same problem with the TIM under the his as was on the 1155 chipset but we wont know until it gets released
