Help with a Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler

Go to solution Solved by stconquest,

I have been picking my parts and learning how to build a computer for about a year and I came up with this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gzmnNG.

I suggested it to my parents and I got all the parts for my 14th birthday. So I was really happy to upgrade from a 2009 Macbook Pro as you might imagine. But I've had trouble with the retention plate sitting on the standoff's correctly. They are near the standoff holes by about half a centimeter. I have tried adjusting the screws on the retention plate but it still is a little off the standoff holes. I know this cooler is supposed to fit a variety of sockets (mine is LGA 1150) but I am hesitant to put on the thermal paste and try it before I know it is not defective and fits correctly. I don't know weather to try to make it work or not plz help  :) .

Keep trying.  You will get it fit right.  Watch videos if you need to.  Reverse the legs and try the fit.

There is nothing wrong with an aftermarket cooler in a non-K CPU... open you mind, man.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

Why do you have the 212 evo when you arnt using a K series cpu?
I can accept it even if it only is for the looks.

If it feels solid it should be in place.

There's these two things called noise and temperatures. Maybe the OP wants those lower. Are you gonna bitch at me for using one on a (technically) non-K SKU?

You have broken one of the sacred rules of PC gaming. You will now be cast into the Lake of High Amperage.

Can't touch my G3258 or edited post from an incorrectly read OP. Still, my edited post still stands.

Budget...

I understand that it can be the budget, But using a 212 evo is overkill when using a regular non-K cpu

So if it was becouse of the budget it would make more sense to not get the 212 evo and get something cheaper or simply nothing at all.

It's the third line for me. I'm using a 1920x1080 display. Specifically the IPS234 from LG.

Not an overkill lol. Any 140mm or dual tower would be overkill.

@Stevoisboss, you need to push and move screws to middle holes (blame poor english, but I assume you are talking about upper bracket). It can be tight and annoying but even I have installed with faulty bracket.
