Fasted out of the box is EVGA's FTW (For the cards I can easily buy, I don't pay attention to things I can't get), though other than comparing out of the box clock speeds I don't know how to compare GPU's. Personally I think I'm going to go with EVGA's new SSC.

INTEL CORE i5-7600K | ASUS ROG STRIX B250i GAMING | CRUCIAL BALLISTIX SPORT LT 16GB | EVGA GTX 970 SC | EVGA B3 550W
SAMSUNG 850 EVO 250GB | CRYORIG M9i | BE QUIET! PURE WINGS 2| FRACTAL DESIGN DEFINE NANO S

Recommendation: MSI Gaming 4g, for a more silent operation, or Gigabyte Windforce for lower temps and slightly better OCing. If one is much cheaper than the other, get that. If around the same price, you can pick based on looks and what you prioritize most.

Just make sure the GA card will fit inside your case.

EVGA's cards for the customer service, Gigabyte's G1 if you OC, and MSI for the all around (noise, temp, etc.).

Boiled down, but you get the point.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

G1 Gaming is the fastest as it have 3 fans and backplate, second would be the Strix, third would be MSI, and last is EVGA I say this because most of the time EVGA cards can't overclock as high without voltage than other brands.

The Strix would be my choice as it can simply shut off it's fans when in low power for very very very quiet operation.  It also is pretty cool compared to others.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

omg so many threads of the same topic lol

Here's my copy/paste from the other threads:

All 970's perform within the margins of each other.

Just pick the one that aesthetically pleases you and fits your PC's color scheme.

Also, please define "best"

CPU: 5820K GPU: Gigabyte G1 970 RAM: 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Mobo: EVGA m-ATX Cooler: Corsair H100i Case: Xigmatek Aquila PSU: NZXT 700W Monitors: 2 x Wasabi Mango (1440p)

Best: Which one would you choose if they all cost the same.

Still says nothing. There is a different best card for each of these cenarios:

  1. Silent Pc
  2. Super Compact Pc
  3. Air OC Pc
  4. Watercooling Pc
  5. SLI Pc
  6. Coolest possible Pc

And that's only considering the absolute best for that particular category, without overall performance. And naturally, pricing and availability.

Why wouldn't EVGA cards overclock as high as others without raising voltage? The silicon lottery applies to all brands.

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming CPU: i5-4570 RAM: 2x4gb Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600Mhz Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 PSU: EVGA GS 650 CPU cooler: Be quiet! Shadow Rock 2 Case: Define R5 Storage: Crucial MX100 512GB

Why wouldn't EVGA cards overclock as high as others without raising voltage? The silicon lottery applies to all brands.

Because the silicon lottery isn't everything. It's a matter of statistic and logic: given a perfectly random silicon distribution across all brands, as well as a high enough number of cards as sample, some models (the better ones) WILL on AVERAGE overclock MORE.

If we could know the exact physical card you'd end up having in your house if you purchased from each brand, and know the silicon limits on those particular models, surely we could recommend the one that would actually OC the most. However, that's impossible, so we recommend the average that OCs the most.

And if you think about it, looking at each brands specs and design choices, the OCing each model gets really makes sense. For instance, the Asus Strix does not OC as much as the Gigabyte G1; well, ofc that would be. After all, Asus designed the card to be silent, and the G1 is designed to dissipate as much heat as possible to achieve more stable temps (as well as better power delivery).

Looks like Gigabyte is the best for OCing at the moment (non-reference 970).

Yea and it doesn't look too bad either, i'm glad the gigabyte logo that stuck out is gone .
