3 Reference GTX 970's or 2 8GB 290x Vapors for 1440p

OneManWolfPack5

You don't need 8GB cards@1440p. 3x 970s will give more performance if the game properly support multi-gpu.

Take the 970's as you dont even need 8gb for 1440p.

EDIT: I wanted to post this somewhere before i goto sleep so here you go2ZXRMTT.gif

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

Neither, 3 970s are way overkill for 1440p and you really don't need more than 4gb of vram. Go for 2 970s.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

you don't need 2x290x for 1440p (4k and higher is a different case)
3x970 is way too much for this resolution get a 980 or 2x970 and improve other things in your system

CPU:AMD FX-8320, RAM:Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600, GPU:MSI Radeon R9 280, Case:Cooler Master 690 III, PSU:Thermaltake Smart 650W

way too op for 1440p. Imo you should just buy 2x 970s or 2x 4 GB 290Xs

Which one will have higher frame rates?

One piece of advice, 3-way SLI is still very meh and Linus made a video on 3x 970 vs 2x980. The 3x970 had horrible stutter in a good amount of games while barely overperforming the 2x980

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

AFAIK the R9 290's would do much better at higher resolution than the 970's, but at this particular res it could be very close.

Even if it is extremely overkill I would go with the 290's, this gives you the option going to 4K with those same GPU's.

Ultimately you need consider if you are ever going to use 4K, and if you are also going to upgrade your GPU's then. The 970 and 980 series beats the 290(x) in most sub 4K situations, but at 4K AMD is king ATM.

That is what I have been able to collect from a few benchmarks, I am no 100% on which is better for 1440P, all I am sure about is 1080p (9xx series) and 4K (R9 290).

EDIT:

Just remembered that the benchmarks I saw use 2 way SLI at max, 970 would probably be the best.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Go for the 970, 2 8GB 290x Vapors would be awesome but nobody need that much for 1440p

I'd say pick two 4 GB R9 290s, unless you are going to play Star Citizen, then I'd go with 8 GB versions :)
