Hello!

I recently purchased a 980 Superclocked from EVGA. My current CPU is an AMD 8350 on a ASUS Crosshair VB Formula-Z motherboard.

Yes, I realize that my GPU is being bottlenecked, but I could not stand my 270X. So, my question is, could the fact that my 980 is being bottlenecked cause it any harm?

My GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487079

Specs:

Intel i7-4790K @ 4.7 GHz cooled by Corsair H80i | ASUS Maximus VII Formula |  G.Skill 8 GB (2 x 4GB) 2133 | EVGA 980 Superclocked (Fry) | 128GB Samsung 840 Pro OS Drive | WD Black HDD | 500GB Samsung 850 EVO | Corsair Vengeance K70 | Logitech G502 Proteus Core

lol @ AMD 8350

Absolutely no harm. The 8350 won't be that much of a bottleneck.

no damage done unless you count not using your $500 GPU to it's full potential as damage.

Yes it will be.

It won't cause harm, just lower performance.

Whatever you say boss.

I go by the benchmarks, not by what I want believe.

Trust me, I wish it didn't bottleneck, but it does (in most games).

Please link me to those benchmarks, so that I will no longer have any doubt.

No harm. Maybe overclocking it a little would help.

Just a few games (at the bottom of the page), note the lower average and severely lower minimums in a lot of the games http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/697?vs=1261

Granted this is with SLI 770's, but if it bottlenecks two 770's that bad, it's going to bottleneck a 980.

I'm sure there's plenty more benchmarks out there, but I'm not going to look them up for you.

Thank you.

8350 is worse per core than Phenom II.

8350 struggles to power my 290 let alone a 980.

I wanted to apologize for flaring up like a little bitch. I'm in a cranky mood since I just got the Flu, AGAIN. Worst part is, I can't smell or taste D:

Well, I would overclock my CPU, but I don't really think that I have the proper cooling. :/ Plus, last time I did, I did it a little too much and my CPU spiked to 85C and it kicked in it's safety and turned off my PC. Soooooo....

My cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118046\

I plan on upgrading to a Corsair H100i, ASUS Maximus VII Hero, and an Intel I7-4790K in the next few months.

Currently, I'm playing Far Cry 4 on everything high with 40+ FPS. (I usually get 60+ but for some reason it drops in Multiplayer O.o)

I also threw the link to my exact GPU in the OP.

Edit: CPU is chilling at around 34-35C when on FC4.

Specs:

Intel i7-4790K @ 4.7 GHz cooled by Corsair H80i | ASUS Maximus VII Formula |  G.Skill 8 GB (2 x 4GB) 2133 | EVGA 980 Superclocked (Fry) | 128GB Samsung 840 Pro OS Drive | WD Black HDD | 500GB Samsung 850 EVO | Corsair Vengeance K70 | Logitech G502 Proteus Core

Why the i7 and expensive board? A 4690K and an MSI Z97 PC MATE are all you need.

No. An i7 is just an i5 with hyperthreading and most games won't take advantage of that. And an expensive motherboard only gives you bragging rights.

Naa, a good motherboard is a good motherboard...
