1080p or 1440p on 4k?

Juganog

Hey! sorry for what is probably a really silly question (don't know a huge amount about monitors)

If i was to play a game at 1080p windowed on a 4k screen, so it isnt obviously the whole screen and only part... will it put less stress on my GPU than if i was to play it at 4k full screen? i'm assuming it would i would just have the inconvenience of not playing a game at full screen.

Probably not going to do this i am just curious about this

Yes Yes Legalize Gay Marriage sure, but have you ever considered Weaponizing Gay?

yeh pretty sure. if youre only running 1080p windowed then all the power is technically only going towards those pixels (idk if i got that right lol)

It will act like you're playing it on a 1080p screen, so yes, you'll get much better performance. However, those 1920x1080 pixels will only be 1/4 of the screen so the game window will be small. You can always maximize the window and get the same performance as it being small, it just won't look as good.

@Juganog

PERFECT thank you 1440p seems fine for most of my needs, and my 770 will run that without an issue

FYI you can run games full screen with 1080p/1440p resolutions as well on a 4k monitor. I do. You don't have to window them to put less stress on your GPU.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

To be honest 1440p on a 4K monitor still looks very sharp.

Indeed it does. That is how I currently run games like BF4 so that I may maintain enough FPS for recording.

1080p looks perfect on a 4k since its exactly 1/4 of the res so it just uses 4 pixels for one,

1440p scales really well too and looks fine

Not necessarily. It's possible to do that, but not all displays are actually programmed to do that. It will depend on each display whether that's the case, and I don't know of any for sure that scale that way.

if you read the reviews on TFT central they cover interpolation quite well, in every review most monitors seem to do a decent job
