As we all know, the Lord of the Ring movies were fantastic movies that pretty much blew away most people that watched them. Now the Hobbit is a different story. I love everything about the Hobbit movies, the music, the characters, the atmosphere, the story and the CGI. Others don't seem to have the same opinion as me and HEAVILY bash these movies mainly because it was different from the book. I haven't had the chance to read the book (mainly because I dislike reading books online and haven't gone to the local library yet to read it) so I don't know everything that is different compared to the movie. Are the differences so great that people hate the movie this much, or is just that people think it was unnecessary/disrespectful to do these changes.

Please give me your opinions on both/either:

1: The lord of the Rings (Did you dislike/like)

2: The hobbit movie/book (Did you dislike/like what they did with the movie compared to book)

P.S. If you can recommend online sites that read like books that would be greatly appreciated.

LOTR was a masterpiece, still my favourite films today. I liked the Hobbit films too (well, the first one not so much), but LOTR is better IMO

I saw LOTR a long time ago, I liked it, but I can't really say any more than that. Everything there was somehow a step up, the CGI was less noticeable to me, possibly because I watched the movies a long time ago but still.

The Hobbit I also liked, but for some reason I was able to predict too much of the scenes, there weren't many surprises, and the CGI was just too obvious, I remember it being better in LOTR. That too away from the overall enjoyment, but I still liked the 2 movies.

I need to re watch LOTR at some point.

That would explain it, I don't remember the LOTR series almost at all. All I can say from it is, some moron wanted to go on a hike up a hill and couldn't not put the damn ring on his finger.

Also Leonidas (I think thats how it is written) wasn't an ass to dwarves, and everyone else either.

This is true. The Hobbit had a lot of CGI. The Lord of the Rings was shot more realistic, but still had some CGI.

one of my friend said on the first day of shooting for the hobbit the actor for what his name gandolf cried because it was all green screen instead of  going to new zealand

Yes this is true. He absolutely hated the fact that he was isolated away from the rest of the actors for the first couple days of filming. but in response to this, the rest of the crew threw a Gandalf appreciation Day and filled his tent with things from The lord of the Rings.

P.S. If you can recommend online sites that read like books that would be greatly appreciated.

1. I honestly liked the movies. I'm working my way through the books, but according to my friend that knows the lore inside and out, the extended editions of the movies are not that bad.

2. The book was incredible. It was a short tale about a hobbit that unwittingly became involved in something more than himself, while at the same time growing as a person. The movie? I fell asleep during the second one and I'm not excited to see the third tonight. Unnecessary characters were added (I'm looking at you, Elven lady) and entire sections were essentially retconned, such as the part about the goblin caves. In the book, that's where Bilbo does the most development; he spends weeks(!) growing and becoming brave, and eventually single-handedly breaking the dwarves out of their cells. It was by far my favorite part in the entire book. In the movie this part was reduced to a Three Stooges-like fight scene, but thankfully the riddles were still included. I did like the stone giants. That part was pretty cool.

That's all I care to say about that. I don't think the Hobbit movies are worth more time than they're already taking from me.

Step up, you fools.

I have only seen the first 15 minutes of the first lotr movie and nothing from the others so no comment but books tend to be better then the movies made from them because the movies need to be short and cut alot of content

LOTR was long the movie was long

the hobbit was short the movie was fucking too long and added way too much shit they didnt cut content they add a shit ton of stuff that didnt happen

i've read the books and watched the movies. To be honest, i dont see why the movies are getting so much hate. The only thing that irked me a bit was the addition of important characters that dont exist in the book in the hobbit movies, but that alone does not make the movies "bad"

The Lord of the rings is the greatest adaption to film ever in my honest opinion, they are truly a one of a kind trilogy, nothing else will ever come close to them for an all round experience.

The hobbit on the other hand, is a very nice book that has been adapted, changed considerably, and made into a three part epic that finally brings closure to Middle Earth in a nice cycle.

I'll be honest, I preferred the books, but the films are an incredible experience that go beyond any other film series I've ever seen.
