Hello LTT community!

This is my log for interning at MSI during this summer. I will be recording everything in detail in this topic. I thought I'd share my journey and experience with all of you.

Feel free to ask any question!

Day 1:

So I start my intern at 2:00PM because I have SAT prep during the morning.

Now you may ask "Austin, how did you get the internship?" Well, let's start off. This warehouse/office is the one located in City of Industry. My parents know the President of this branch and they asked if I could get an intern here (I'm lucky, I know).

So I walk in and there's a poster of the Mpower and GD-65 motherboard in the lobby. The President calls for a supervisor (I'm still not sure of his position..) and the supervisor directs me to the warehouse portion of this huge building. I walk through a office, where people are supposedly working, and then through a cafeteria. There's a door to the warehouse and I walk through it. Today, my job was to open up refurbished GT70s and check if all the parts are working. I also wiped out the disks and installed/activated Windows 8. They use laptop hard drives (Toshiba, WD Scorpios, and Hitachi) to create a new laptop pretty much with Windows 8 on it. (I'm really surprised as to why they didn't use SSDs or USB 3 to SATA converters - they used USB 2 to SATA.) So my day pretty much comprised of: opening up GT70 boxes, opening them, checking if all the parts are there (One had a missing hard drive, lol), wiping the disk and installing their image of Windows 8, making sure everything on the laptop works, and activating windows. Another thing to note is that since they were using USB 2, it took a hell lot of time to import their image of Windows 8 onto the laptops. So, I was pretty much just sitting there doing nothing while the software was being imported. That concludes Day 1.

Day 2:

I arrived 30 minutes earlier today and I was told to place "AMD ready" stickers on their FM2 motherboards for the new Richland and Trinity CPUs. After taking out more than 100 motherboards, placing stickers on them, and putting them back in, I just went back to completely my work from day 1. I needed to finish re-installing and checking the gaming laptops as seen in day 1. That was pretty much my day.

Day 3:

Un-box,, tape a sticker, and tape again. This was the routine that I went through the whole day on Thursday (6/20). The picture that follows pretty much says what I was doing - the same thing as day 2. MSI needed to urgently send these out to Newegg I guess.

4781D6DB-9BD8-4825-A989-D6B963ADAFE4-272[

Day 4:

Same as Day 1, placing new software/activating Windows 8 in their refurb. notebooks.

Day 5:

Yay, something different. I unboxed a crap ton of boxes that were sent to us by Fry's and Tigerdirect for RMA. I just matched up papers for what was in the box and stapled them, and organized the items inside the boxes into stacks. Note: MSI is very eco-friendly. They recycle all their boxes and also the bubble wrap used they receive from shipping. I also learned how to use a pallet-mover thingy. Pretty cool.

Day 6:

Same as the previous day, and after that I did the same thing as Day 4. Waiting for something new to do...(6/27)

No time to update today, but in short, I did pretty much the same thing and I put stickers on FM2 boards that said the mobo was Trinity and Richland compatible.
