Hello,

I will admit it, I have been a AMD fanboy as their products were soo good about 2 years ago, mostly price to performance and 8 core processors. But now it has become clear that AMD is going to focus on enthusiast GPU's (Good Job AMD!) and shitty APU's.

AMD does not even give a good price to performance, overclocking and even their Enthusiast compare to Intels mainstreem.

So its the time, my birthday comes on March 8, and I want a upgrade, a upgrade to ... Intel. My question is what should I get, budget would be about $400. Gaming computer, will be paired with a H100i and a R9 290X (Yes that part I am staying with AMD all the way).

I want a combo that has a good Asus motherboard with a good chipset. Probably a Intel CPU which is hyperthreaded and has Great performence per core.

I will be overclocking because of a huge investment in fans because of AMD.

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

AMD won't be releasing a proper desktop cpu until ~2016. They dun goof'd, and they know it. They've taken a step back, and expanded their business in other areas whilst they work their bollocks off on a new architecture for a desktop chip.

They're down in the desktop cpu market, but not out.

Im refusing to buy another AMD GPU untill they are able to produce stable drivers. I have been putting in bug reports since 14.7 onwards about an issue with eyefinity that means some 290x users cant enable it on any driver over 14.7... Got no response at all and they dont seem to be fixing it either. I did hear of somebody else getting a response from them (about the same issue) and the person had no clue about AMD products, they thought CrossfireX was SLI and told him to disable SLI on his 290x's and check its SLI brdige... come on AMD sort your shit out please!

I fully intend for my next GPU upgrade to me Nvidia at this point and its realy heartbreaking for me.

Oh howethe' AMD fanboys crumble.

All you really need is an i5 + z97, but you have a very large budget, and could easily fit in an i7.  Go for an i7 + Z97.

A lot can change in 4 months though, so just keep your options open until it comes time.  Start planning about 2-3 weeks in advance.
