Hello everyone,

Let's start off from the beginning I'm subscribed to Star Citizen YouTube channel (devs seem fun) and I've been following them for quite a while. I watched a few streams here and there and I've became very interested in actually backing it and playing it. I have a few question regarding the game and how it runs in particular. Now I have a really old system, an i5-650, 7850, 4 GB's of ram. So obviously I'm not going to be playing it on max but will I be able to run it at 60 fps stable (1920x1080)? I've also had my doubts about the game due to lack of content. I haven't seen anything spectacular there is to do apart from dog fighting in some sort of arena mode that I watched a streamer play. Also I was wondering would I need to buy a joystick for a full immersion and experience? I will be changing my PC to a better one in July, with G3258, GTX 970, 16GB ram and so on. So what do you think?

I am fairly interested in Star Citizen, but I am not going to buy it before full release, this is why.

MMO's get real boring real fast and starting to play it before it's even released just makes the experience less intriguing when it's actually released. I personally will wait till it settles down and if it still is as good as people are hyping it out I will definitely invest into it.

why? There will be much better options by then, and even now, you can get an i5 4440, a basic mobo, and 8gb od ram for not that muuh more and it will perform MUCH better.

I was thinking about it too. I had bad experience with DayZ that completely ruined the game for me.

I know but I'll be changing the G3258 to i5-4670k in 5-6 months time after the build. I don't really like the i5-4440 as it is really low end i5 and it wouldn't last me as long I think.

It would be fine for quite a few years, first generation i5s (low end) are still pretty good. By the time you build this, you won't want a g3258 because of newer options.

IMO what they have at the moment is an extremely fun game, its come along way since the first release and continues to gain a lot of features in each successive patch, the next one before X-mass will be a big one too.

You will find that in the hangar it is a system hog but when you get to flying (with the exception of the Murray's cup start line) its is a lot less intense, presumably because of LOD scaling however I would expect it to get more demanding as time goes on and they start adding in more and more systems. Personally I wouldn't bet on a dual core for this game, it might be OK now but as things go on I can see it needing a quad or higher.

With your current system and with the game in its current state it will be quite playable and with the upgrade you have planned it will be great however as I mentioned I would highly recommend going to the i5 and not just for this game.

As far as control I found a mouse and keyboard fine for dog fighting but not ideal, for racing however it was a PITA, I got a cheap Logitech extreme 3D pro (or something to that effect) and found going to a HOMAS setup was ideal with stick in my left hand and mouse in my right, it meant I had tight control over the ship with the stick and could still gimbal my weapons with the mouse, I haven't used any other setup since the latest patch with control aid updates so the other control schemes might be better now but I think the general consensus is HOMAS is the best for the moment.

Basically if the dog fighting/swarm/CTF/racing were the only things that were going to be in the game and they just polished what they already have and added a few more weapons, maps, etc. I think it would be a worth while game, the fact they are adding FPS, planet side, single player and the persistent universe will make it an astounding game.

P.S. I also had the "DayZ experience" and I can tell you this is far more polished than DayZ ever was even at this early point in development... the programmers actually seem to know what they are doing on this ;)

Anyone who is unsure shouldn't buy it until release, as for it gets boring, I'm playing it every day but I grew up on space sims so its perfect for me

The G3258 won't cut it if you do get it, I'd argue to stick with what you've got until you can afford the i5

60 fps at 1080 might be possible on the gtx970 with an i5.

on your current setup on low settings you might be able to hit 30, but probably not.

Cyrengine is a punishing engine, and they are pushing it to the max.

yeah should be fine with a i5 and a 970, i have a i5 haswell stock and a 980 stock.

I don't think that will be the case for SC. It is not like any typical MMO. It's a Space Simulator + Multiplayer.
