I recently heard about a CPU/GPU bottleneck, and I want to know more about this.

I currently have a i7 870 2.80Ghz CPU and a R270 GPU, i'm playing heavy games such as BF4 & Arma 3 and I experience FPS lag (20-23fps), is it possible that my GPU is being bottlenecked as I have the feeling that my r270 should be able to give me atleast 30fps.

How can I check if it's actually being bottlenecked while playing arma ?

And if it is, is this limiting my FPS and thus increasing my FPS if I get a new CPU? and are there maybe other ways to get rid of the bottleneck other than buying a new cpu?

I'm wondering if I should get a new CPU.. and if yes, I might even need a new motherboard right?

I just don't feel like playing with 20fps anymore, and I want to know what options I have.

Your GPU is bottlenecking the CPU....

What resolution you running at

1920x1080, and why do you think that my GPU is being bottlenecked?

I just want to know if my GPU is bottlenecked and if it's almost mendatory to replace my CPU right now or if it's not that bad and it won't change much about my fps.

From Anand Tech

Battlefield 4 - 1920x1080 - Ultra Quality

Frames per Second - Higher is Better38.8

Also, what manufacturer you using. Anti Aliasing of MFAA enabled?

Plus because any i7 beats my FX 8350 and I get 70 FPS maxed out BF4 with dual HD 7850's

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

i'm pretty sure my i7 870 is pretty damn old, and I don't know if it's worth it to replace as it would have a pretty huge priceticket but if it's boltnecking my videocard so it can't use it's full potential, I might consider replacing it. The problem is that I don't know how to check this, and I was wondering if someone could tell me by my GPU & CPU specs if you "think" it's time to replace the cpu, and that's why i'm asking advice as i'm not a "pro" in computer stuff.

I have R270 videocard and I assumed that should be able to give me 30fps+ in Arma 3, but it doesn't as it gives 20fps, I really doubt it's my graphiccard.

You cannot just say "i get 20-30 fps" That doesn't mean anything

You're playing at 1080p, that's one step. What settings are you playing at (perhaps take a screen shot, as arma has a lot of settings.

Basically set everything according that thread.

I tried everything, I just can't get my FPS where I want it to be, so that's why I was looking into the hardware rather than software.

CPU - i7 870 2.80Ghz

GPU - R270

Is there anyone that can tell me if my CPU can handle my GPU by just these specs, or is my gpu too "fast" for my CPU?

Results: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/105926

as i mentionned in your other thread about this your CPU is in fact more powerful than your GPU in regards to gaming...you could go with an R9 280 on this thing and still get all the performance out of the card.
