My goal: To be the best big brother ever.

evilmeister13

So I moved out of my parents house about 3 years ago, and now I've moved to a completely different city and don't see my little bros very often anymore. When I do see them, I feel the need to compensate for not being there to support them. So I figured I would build them a rig, so we could play games together and I could keep in touch with them. But I don't want it to be just any rig. I want it to be a monster, I want it to be the kind of rig that will make them laugh at their console peasant friends, I want it to be the kind of rig that when people walk in the house they go "Holy balls is that a gaming computer?" and my brother to reply "Hell yeah bitch, my big bro hooked me up." So here's my challenge to you guys:

-Core i5 @3.5GHz or better

-8GB of ram

-GTX 760 or better

-256GB SSD or better

-1TB HDD

-Must be small, competitive with consoles if possible

-Potential for upgrades

-Must be a color scheme of some sort, pref blue or red

-Needs all peripherals, and must match color scheme of case(aside from monitor)

-I'd like to keep the price around $1,200 if possible

Thanks guys, and if you can't keep the price that low, then just post your ideas and I'll look at them.

There's so, so so much more to being the best big brother than buying physical items ;)

I'll build out what I'd personally do. Cases are super subjective though so...take that with a grain of salt.

What a mean thing to say. Don't you think he knows there's more to being family than buying things? He wants to give his little bros a nice present. Mellow out dude.

OP do you want just the parts blue or red or the case too?

Do you want a case with a window?

I was thinking

Corsair AIr 240

Maximus VII impact

2x4GB 2133 C9 (red)

H100i (red led)

MSI Gaming 970 (red/black)

Red LED strip from frozenCPU

How old are they? cause if they're like little kids or something, less than 12 I see no need for them to have a real powerful gaming pc, since chances are they'd probably just end up playing minecraft or something. Also kids in my opinion are naturally destructive with pcs. either breaking them physically or looking at dangerous shit, destroying them. (I've seen tons of kids destroy pcs)

I'm just trying to keep in touch with them and be badass at the same time. I have no idea what kind of case to use in a rig such as this, or how I would go about matching up all the colors when I want such specific things. So that's why I'm asking you guys.

This is one of the two builds I am considering for myself it fits right in your price range for everything but windows and it has a mid tower but the Fractal case isnt really that big about the size of two large boxes of cereal side by side and its setup with a red and black theme with the exception of the keyboard its just a cheap backlit keyboard since i cant stand non-backlit boards since i usually game in a dark room i want to be able to see my keys. I had planned on getting an RGB keyboard down the road so you can change that out if you like same with the mouse.

You could always do what i did on that build i linked you remove the SSD and HDD and go with a Hybrid drive which is a mechanical drive with a 8gig SSD inside it to speed it up through caching and swap out the R9 280x for a GTX 970

If you want a SSD in there also and only have a $1,200 budget then a R9 280x or R9 290 are your best bet to stay within budget. Because SSD's arent cheap and they eat up a nice chunk of your budget. But if you had an extra $100 you could spend then both a 256gb SSD and a GTX 970 would be within your reach. And also if your going with a SSD there is no point in getting a SSHD also just get a HDD its cheaper than getting both since a SSHD is mainly for people who cant afford getting a SSD and HDD.

When are you planning to build this if you dont mind me asking? Reason i ask is because from the rumor mill on the internet the GTX 960 should be launching around February which should be coming in around $250-275 which would allow you to get everything you are asking for in this build and have a really badass 1080p card.

This is what I myself would go for in your situation.

And yeah went bit over the budget with periphetals.

Seems like almost exactly what i want. How quiet do you think it'll be under full load?

What a mean thing to say. Don't you think he knows there's more to being family than buying things? He wants to give his little bros a nice present. Mellow out dude.

OP do you want just the parts blue or red or the case too?

Do you want a case with a window?

I was thinking

Corsair AIr 240

Maximus VII impact

2x4GB 2133 C9 (red)

H100i (red led)

MSI Gaming 970 (red/black)

Red LED strip from frozenCPU

red LED fans front and top

Seasonic G550 power supply

1TB WD Blue HDD

256GB MX100 SSD

That graphics card won't fit in the Corsair Air 240 case according to this thread on Corsair Forum.

Pretty shallow if you think you can buy friends and family.

I mean he did mention that he's building this for them so they can play games and spend time together. That's brotherly bonding isn't it? :P
